  • Balance: Competitive Gameplay VS XP Rooms

Why was that thread locked? Just mysteriously locked after "someone" suggested it should be. Frankly, until it was locked, it was almost the most civil, lucid debate by pople of completely opposed views that I have seen in this forum thus far. This stuff is getting retarded. Oh, and to LJ: You suggested that TNF should have a team to help new playerS? That would be awesome, all they do now is troll the blitz rooms in prem CA or BB1 , murdering noobs, never saying a word. Your suggestion would be a marked improvement. Back to my point... sick of seeing locked/censored threads.

Be careful with what you post. Technically this post can also get binned/locked.

I recommend editing this post so it's "legal" asap.

On topic, it is strange that it was locked without anyone leaving a trace there. I'll see if I can find out anything.

Rehor
That thread was just a big fat hypocritical contradiction.

It was deservedly locked, just way after it should have been.

Hey. I'll admit, I'm no fan of E-rad, or half the other guys in here, except Rehor, who is humble and very eloquent. It DID start out rough, but it quickly got on task, and once there put out some good stuff. Lionel's post was particularly concise with regards to the issue of balancing content for GB vs Competitive play, be it HA, Fleet War, Fleet League, or what have you.
Still not sure what you are referring to Rehor, with regards to the thread NEEDING to be locked, must be some inside joke or prior argument you guys were having that spilled into the other thread, I'm sure you will enlighten us in your typically lucid and easy to understand style.
Angus, as far as I can tell, there is nothing in my thread so far that breaks any rules or is some sort of flashpoint for a flame war. As long as noone mentions those boats that go underwater, I think we can keep it civil. ( I think everyone is sick of seeing a trail of locked threads due to THAT issue. I WILL assume a tad of responsibility for that, but it usually takes two or more to tango)
I would really like to get back to the debate of GB vs Competitive play, as I believe we are finally touching on exactly why the two main camps can't see eye-to-eye.

Many posts seem to get locked/deleted/cleaned a lot more since the 10000 word essay on rules was released. Kind of a shame. NF has been losing players for a while now, and the dedicated players who stay and want to voice opinions on subjects, have many posts locked for questionable reasons to say the least. Does not seem like the right path to take if they want the game to continue to keep the dedicated players playing and paying for their product. If it is the intention to frustrate players expressing their opinions so much they stop using the forum, then more people will eventually get fed up and quit.

Rehor
The BB's that thrive in GB's are not the BB's that thrive in competitive rooms (HA, league, or other).

This doesn't mean people cannot have success crossing over. This doesn't mean people cannot have fun crossing over. This does not mean the H-39 needs a huge buff and the Lion needs a huge nerf.

Shared-XP nullifies most of the counter-balance drivel that surges from time to time. As I wrote in another thread:

As for the other thread, the guy kept flipping out because he took my theoreticals as personal insults to his play (a bit trippy if his focus is on having fun) even though I've probably never been seen in the same room as he. Then some other dude joined in the conversation only to make absolutely no sense.

If your focus is fun, and your favorite ships get tweaked/balanced, the irony boils over when you do.

Can't one of us just open the other thread?

I agree with the OP in saying that it was a civil and mostly polite argument where I think the other guys knew what I was trying to say and I understand their point as well.

The difference between competitive play and exp rooms are:

1) Skill Level - Fact of the matter is, there are terrible players that ruin the game for their whole team. That can't be avoided in "pub" rooms, which are what Exp rooms are.

2) Exp System - People do what gives them the most exp. That is why bombers are used more on CV's. That is why people go scoutless. That is why people play GB1's. There is a distinct lack of reward for team based actions that you will rarely see in GB; Such as scouting, such as counter rushing to save a damaged team mate, counter rushing to finish off an enemy ship that is hurt, who has just killed a team mate. Lack of exp for killing scouts compared to bombers and fighters.

3) Autobalancer/team balance - It is near impossible to have a balanced (ship wise) GB; Why? So many different ships, there aren't limits on tiers, often you will get completely messed up CV balance, you will often have an odd number of BB6's.

4) Lack of fleet play - Simple. People want to play with friends. People want to play with people they can rely upon.

There is also the issue of lack of team work, but that is due to all of the 4 above. This is also why, I feel the game is slowly losing players, among other reasons (such as lack of variety in game modes; Lack of advertising, poor and limited training/introduction missions, lack of a wiki, lack of a dedicated new player team, lack of a community manager, lack of resolution options and windowed mode).

The thing is, SDE is a very small company, and the people that are there and volunteering are working damn hard. But surely some expansion is needed. In both the community and staff.

Since the other thread is now open, I'm going to lock this one.
