As a CV6 and BB6 player I find that simply being aware of the sub's position and having a decent amount of bulge allows me to not be too afraid of them.
It's fairly easy to dodge in a midway going <34 knots, so it should be child's play to dodge torps with a BB going >38 with a high overheat time.
I don't see what the fuss is all about.
