Due to the following quote, I'm creating a thread to keep track of new ship suggestions. I'll be hiding posts as I add them to the main post to keep it easy to read.

I will only add to the main list that have link(s) with gun sizes and stats and a picture.

Issue 4:
Ship Design Competition – Ljsevern, Fleet Leader Forum, 2 Feb:

Could we hold a ship design competition of some form and then implement it?

Answer 4: This is a very good idea. As luck would have it, we recently hired an NF graphic designer who would be able to help pick out some good ship images from the player side. We will work on setting this into motion for use in the near future.

Angus, this is a fantastic idea for a thread. There are a lot of wonder ships out there that could be added. A few of my favorites:

USS Helena CL50 - was a design following the Brooklyn class. They had new style broilers and the ship design for them was better, giving more speed. Also, they had a better deck layout, so they were able to mount the 5/38 dual gun turrets as opposed to the earlier Brooklyn. Also, they had a higher displacement. Historically, Helena was in some of the most bitter fighting in the south pacific before it was sunk in a night action. Making this ship a high level (60+) cruiser wouldn't hurt blitz and would make for an interesting GB AA or ASW ship.

USS Nautilus SS168 - Was a pre war prototype and was HUGE compared to other WW2 subs (2,700 tons compared to the "newer" 1,500 ton subs). Also, it had 2 six inch guns. Historically, Nautilus was in the middle of the battle of Midway, carried Raiders in rubber boats, shelled enemy held islands, completed 14 war patrols and survived the war. Other subs had more sinking totals, but Nautilus completed the most diverse missions and survived far longer than the other pre war subs. The other thing that makes it attractive as a NF ship is that its different than the other US subs.

For CVs, there are 4 for consideration Ranger, Enterprise, orginal Wasp and original Hornet. CV7 Wasp and CV4 Ranger are interesting because they are unique in that they are the only one in their class and different. But with Hornet/Enterprise, they have fabulous histories, even tho there already is a Yorktown class. I think if you didn't put Enterprise in the game at some point, you'd have a revolt.

For BBs, you've got to add BB33 Arkansas! It served in both theaters (pacific and atlantic), present at the biggest amphibous assaults the world will ever have seen. And the turrets.... 6 on the center line! Neat looking ship. If you wanted to go with a somewhat fantasy ship, BB66, Kentucky was on paper and Iowa class ship. However, although not quite complete, her hull was a lot stronger. They used a different type of welding on it that claims the ship would have been just as fast buy 40% stronger. Other great choices could be Utah (2 turrets forward and 3 turrets in the rear) could create some interesting playstyle. Or Californina and West Virgina were both massively rebuilt after Pearl Harbor and looked and performed like the Sodak and North Carolina.

For the UK, I would look really hard at Iron Duke. Yea, the ship isn't one of the grand designs of the 20s Angus likes but she survived WW2 as a training ship. She was certainly the queen and pride of the Royal Navy in WW1. We already have turn of the century Russian ships fighting WW2 modern ships, so the realism there is already gone. I think that above any other UK ship, you got to add Iron Duke. You also would win massive points with the players from the UK. Not to mention with 13.5" guns it would be completely unique to the rest of NF. No one else has 13.5" guns and the RN specialized in rapid fire. Imagine a small hitbox BB with rapid fire 13.5s and a 15 degree angle so it shot like a stick.

The other nation with some GREAT options is japan.

The best Japanese CV not in the game by far is Soryu. Veteran of Midway and Pearlharbor, it carried a few less planes thank the other pre war japanese CVs but was the fastest CV in the entire war. Period. Who the heck else could make 38 knots? Also, because it was short, it had a crazy turning radius. Soryu with the body and speed of a CV2 but with the plane carrying and launching capacity of a CV4/5 would be a great reward.

You know what bothers me about the Japanese NF fleet? They were known for their WW2 "treaty" cruisers. They tore up the south pacific with them. Yet all the game has is Mokoto and 3 variations of Mogami. What about the stack of heavy cruisers that Japan had????

I like Takayo class, an improvement on the Mokoto class. But I really like Tone. Google it and look at it. FOUR turrets forward and the ramps for the planes in the back. That even puts Mogami to shame. Also, Tone was in every major carrier battle in the war.

Thank you for giving us the oppertunity for imput!

I would very much like the tone class. Perhaps one of the most famous japanese cruisers of WW2, it played a crucial role in the battle of midway. I also would suggest the musashi, the other great battleship that Japan had. As far as other nations, just putting it out there, because i know we just started testing italy, but maybe someday, the Littorio class :)

+1 for Tone! Can't believe that the IJN is missing all those classes of pre war heavy cruisers.

Actually "our" H-44 is just the H-41 design (16.5" guns).. the real H-44 should be a bb6. It's supposedly to carry 8x20" guns. I really think that WWI project N20a would be a interesting proposal, it had same firepower that NF's H-44 (8x16.5") but in a smaller design.

Also I think that British Agincourt would be another interesting proposal, 14x12" guns, huge firepower and good speed (however lacking some armor), a "British Fuso"

finally I also agree with put some of the IJN CA classes like Takao, Aoba and Tone

i like this thread :P

I would like to see the Dutch Project 1047, since I'm from Holland =P
Also, a Tirpitz (not a unique one) as a remodel of the Bismarck would be very nice.
