  • Pondering the Possibilities

MagicMan0014
So... I have been playing NF for roughly about 2 years (just took a break not long ago, about 6-8 months)...
But am still unsure and or don't know some things... I usually try to do some reasearch and or look things up,
but also would like other opinions...

I have BO as U.S., IJN, Russia, British and German, and my highest BO is British at about 36 or so, and German
BO at about 28 or so... Have been trying to plan which way to go in Nation/Ship wise... RN have better BB's
from what i've heard, having good armor and repairs, and KM have better SS's from what i've heard... But looked it up and quite a few German BB's
have a lot more Durability and Germans in general have higher Fire Power...

Not sure whether to keep doing what I am doing with going for British BB (have Emerald CL now), and German SS
(have German DD now)... Any ideas? Tips? Comments? Help is appreciated, thanks.

P.S.~ On a side note, I plan to try and go for CV with IJN and U.S.... Japan has better bombers ive heard, and
U.S. has better fighters... Ive had some people say I should try to get CV first, because it is easy to get points/credits
to save up towards BB's, or just anything later on in general...

I know it depends on persons playstyle, but I really want to get a BB or SS to try something different, so many decisions!!! lol

RN BB1-4 will always struggle with the range fight, and it only gets better by BB5 level. KM does have good range, but they also have paper ships, and throw marshmallows for ammo. Its a bit harder to drive KM BBs that way.

I suggest continuing with your RN line for BB.

KM SS is good, but its a whole other skillset to be good at SS driving.

Its good to have a CV, along with a BB, because you can switch around if ever you're bored with the other, ha! Also, when one room is filled with BB, then you can take out your CV to join and vice versa so you get to spend more time playing and less time waiting.

hi there,

There are some things you need to know before you make you final decision.

Firstly note that cvs cost a lot and you will not be able to afford them at the begining. also you will need to have the pilots ready when you get your first cv. If you dont have them already try to play bb or in a AA ca (moltke, emden are great for that) in order to lvl them up. Also, it depends what you want to do with your cv. You want to be a bomber only a fighter only or a mix cv. IJN ftrs are crap and you will need to macro manage a lot. The IJN dbs are great though. For US i know they got the best ftrs at the moment (no idea if this will change though).

Second: the first 2 ss of all nations are crap. You will hate for making that decision and for going through the problematic (low air supply and low speed and majorly ss get shared exp -low exp) first tiers of ss. You will better off if you lvl a neutral (class at lvl 12 at the nationality of your liking and leave him at that until you can get ss3 or ss4 depends on you). Also you will need to lvl up 2 torpers a planesman and a sonarman. Torpedomen have to be the same lvl as the ss in order to work. Km has one of the best ss due to the proxy torps (explode even without contact with enemy) ijn hits the hardest though. The rest i dont have i cant say much.

Third: KM bbs have the range but the damage output is very low. You will need to hit 3-4 times in order to kill a bb with the 11" guns. The spread is awfull only advantage is your speed. I am not mentioning the range because in gb you have bb5s and bb6s playing so you are always outranged unless from the same tier ones. RN has good armor abilities and good damage output but low range. US is a bit better balanced and they are average in general. SN and IJN bbs you have to get used to the angles as they shoot at 45 decrees which means the shells stay longer time in the air and u need to predict where the ship is going to be when they land.

You will be better off if you read some guides and compare national traits of each nation before making any decisions. Also you need to keep in mind that for bbs you will a total of 14 sailors for your bb6. For ss you need the torpers sonarman and planesman the rest of the positions you will need engs and/or rep /rest. For cv you will need a total of 8 pilots (ftrs, dbs, tbs) plus maybe a seaman for faster loading of the planes.

Good luck then and enjoy the game.

Something nobody has mentioned yet: You will want to have at least two bridge officers from each nation to keep the crew at level or above the ship the BO is in. BOs get more xp than any other sailor so they tend to leave the crew behind in lvls pretty quickly. In a perfect world you want your crew to be at least a few levels above the BO and the gunners at least 10 levels above the BO.

I can' really offer you much advice as far as what nation to choose for a BB. They all suck at one point or another and are tough sledding till the next tier at least once per nation as you progress towards BB5/6. I found the IJN grind to be the worst with MN a close second.
- US as stated is pretty balanced but suffers at BB3 level from crap spread and glass boats.
- UK has decent damage but is generally at a disadvantage for range till BB5. Best supports and most support slots at all lvls till BB6.
- USSR was ok till some brain wave decided the whining on the forums had basis in reality and the nation was patched into uselessness (BB4 being an exception).
-MN has fun BBs at low level with good damage, but against what you are facing in GB they are challenging to use because of low range.
- IJN....just miserable till BB3. From there on you are at least competitive.
- KM has the range advantage at pretty much every tier. As stated above they use marshmallows for ammo and are not the most durable hulls. On the flip side if you play them correctly they are quite effective and the AA is very good.

I agree to most of whats stated by responders. I wouldnt care bringning two BO's up. Stay with the ship you are playing when you get a new one, well test it but you will be better of in the one which is a lvl lower. At level crews sux badly in a ship.
,
From start run a BB line and one BB line only. It might get booring some say but its also most rewarding since you get it up quicker and you get the skills needed on that ship. Its tougher to swap around. - Learn you angles! Specifically the midranges because you want to hold back and at a good point, often late in the game, rush the victim. You need to hit him accurately and take him down. You will not be able to retreat, often. So one single victim stay out of range of the masses, they will kill you.

My first line was UK. I liked the support slot extra (+1 support compared to others). I went County Line because I wanted the Queen Elisabeth and it had more BB's to pick from in the grind. They are also four gunned per ship in the BB line and hits harder than the Repulse lilne. This is if you dont buy Dunk.. I havent done that so I did it the hard way.

KM low level BBs sucked badly so there I bought the Andrea Doria, which is a fantatsic PBB and a good Grinder. So I would actualla consider recomending you to go KM. Using Emden (AA), Moltke (AA) and Andrea Doria and then pick H39 when you are at lvl 90 ish plus. KM is a fantastic grind nation and you can use Emden and Moltke for grinders later on. When you want your CV or an SS.

You need 2 acc gunners, two AA gunners (reload stats high), 2-3 reps, 5-6 engies and a rookie pilot exceept your BO. AA possibly ASW using your normal gunners will be the fastest way up to lvl 60+ when you cant start test AD. You also recive experts from AA that you otherwise need to buy. you can easily get up to 50 vets and some experts for free by doing AA / sailor.

Thats about all the tips I can give you..

regards, and good luck.. see you ingame :D
