statistically speaking, even if FPs could strafe ships, they wouldn't do much. Imagine how much a rain of .50 caliber lead, which is a soft metal, would do against several inches of steel and iron.
Absolutely nothing.
Imho, since it's a strafe run, and obviously there will be sailors on the decks of ships, that strafing FPs could kill sailors, and you would get points for killing officers or whatever of an enemy ship instead of only dishing out 1 damage per, with most shells bouncing on high tier ships. But that would make the game too complicated, and the skill of low level DDs and their sailors would be absolutely nerfed to hell by CVs doing strafing runs on them.
Also, strafe runs could be effective in knocking out a ship's auto AA, so a CV could send in a strafe run of FPs to soften up a ship's defenses before bombing it.
This idea has some potential, but I'm a little hesitant to recc.
