i bet i'ma be trolled/flamed and all that good stuff but befor you do just think of it... you fire off a salvo at whatever and as the shells leave ur ship and fly through the air... what would there be to stop from them shells having a small chance(if any) at hitting 1 or more planes? yes it would be a rare occurence but it should be possible. if a shell were to hit a plane that shell should explode as if it were hitting a ship and maybe causing splash damage to a small area.

AA shells are already shooting down planes way too easier than their real life counterpart.

Unless you're nerfing all non-US/UK (which had the Mk.37 FCS and VT shell) AA accuracy to a generally unacceptable level that you need to project hundreds of shells into the sky to bring down one or two planes, no.

....AA?.... never knew that there was already aa in the game.... :l nothing would have to be nerfed and i'm not trying to say every1 would hav to load HE for taking out planes. i'm only trying to say y can't they hit them when ur shooting another ship see as how some gun hav high angles just think of it as collateral damge lol. there was a show i used to watch and i remember one of the episodes there was a ship using ALL it's gun to hit the planes lol

Because AA shells in this game are actually proxy shells already, which explodes within a certain distance within the plane without requiring a direct hit.

Because the 2D engine most likely doesn't really know how to determine a direct hit from a non-proxy shell on a plane sprite.

Because I don't want to see the drama caused by ship TK caused by attempts to AA with HE.

Because AA is already ridiculously easy and doesn't need to be easier.

Because asking for the AA shells for Yamato's main gun to be added is a useless but still better idea.

Stop being a troll, youre getting nobody anywhere. The OP asked a legitimate question which deserves a legitimate answer.

@OP:
The 2D engine probably wouldnt do too hot with that. Yes, AA shells work, so it may be possible, but considering SDE doesnt know how to change map sizes, im not sure they could begin to figure out this.

The other issue with it is that people could potentially start using HE as the normal AA, with the penalty that if they miss with a shell or more and there are friendly ships where the HE shells land (because they arent set to explode in the air) then said ship would get hit. No problem for most AA whores out there, but its kind of a problem when youve got a DD shooting at a plane over the south battle line and hitting every ship on your side, and missing the plane.

It would also mean that there would not be much use for AA shells outside of the reason stated above with friendly fire, as HE shells would likely do just as much damage (if historically represented) so people could use one ammo type for air and planes; while not a problem in many cases, in a competitive scenario like fleet league it could create an issue.

Well what if we shoot the water and the planes fly into the big funnels of water and killed them that way. Because during the battle of gutacanel US planes had to advoid the water thingys that the JAPAN battleships were shooting into to take em down. So y not just let the BB's only use this by shooting into the water to stop low flying planes? Would make sense.

:l AA will still hav it's ability for takin out planes and i'm NOT saying to use HE as aa..... I'M SAYING then when u shoot a ship what's stoping a shell in mid flight TOWARDS another ship from hitting the plane :l aka not using HE as AA but as HE would normaly be used for

I get what youre saying, but what im trying to point out is that if you make it possible for HE shells to impact planes then people will just make use of that and replace AA with HE shells. Basically, once it becomes a POSSIBILITY to accidentally hit a plane, people will stop doing it accidentally and start doing it purposely.

And the drama of TK due to HE AAing will never end until it's taken out.

The problem with that suggestion, as far as reality is concerned, is that HE shells (or heaven forbid, AP shells) would only do a miniscule amount of damage on a plane, and only on a DIRECT HIT!

I know what you'll be thinking now:

"Why a miniscule amount, its a huge shell filled with explosives!"

Right, but consider that all non-AA shells used a impact or time-delayed fuze, which would only activate if the shell impacts a sufficient amount of material...like the ships body, or its superstructure etc.

Its the same principle thats behind AP doing less damage to unarmored ships/ship parts. There is just not enough material in the way to generate sufficient impact force to activate the fuze - or at least, to get the shell to explode before it already passed through the plane...at best the plane would have a variably sized hole, which may or may not impede its ability to keep in the air.

AA Shells on the other hand damaged a large amount of the planes structure through bursting in the air and covering the adjacent area with shrapnel.

like the idea. Kill those pesky TBs that have no use. It would make killong planes fun too hehe:)
