Have read it somewhere here but can't find it again and don't know how old the post was.

Is it still possible to use a normal sailor as BO on a prem ship? What would be a good choice concerning seeing shells landing? Sonar-/Planesman cause they have high potential?

concrete idea:
I have an IJN CV crew with bad base and crew stripped off BO. So those prem ships are unusable to me with this. Would it be possible to buy a sonarman from trade system and use the prem ships then?

Would it even be possible with a different nation or wouldn't I be able to enter harbour with out a BO of taht nation?

I remember they changed that in NFEU servers so you had to use a regular BO on prem ships there.

Sonar and planesman dont have potential, so it is useless to expect them giving decent guideline.

Engineer gives a retarded amount of lenght which is too much. Best is to use seaman or anything soft crew with potential left.

Slightly OT:
For  an engineer it's actually his total abilty in the engine stat that is used to determine shell spotting and guideline length on prem ships.
Found that out with some delayed classed engineers ( don't ask why).
