under downloads, patch option would not work.  this was after game provided patch on selecting start game and immediately crashed.

read here and deleted game, downloaded main client for XP.  problem with game guard, did not reach login screen before closing.  examining folder, found extraneous zip file within game guard file.  opening this provided same negative result.

deleted game tried second download option for XP.  this one would not even unzip properly. back to option 1 for XP.

note: I HAD REBOOTED AFTER EACH ATTEMPT.

rebooted again.  DELETED EVERYTHING EVEN REMOTELY CONNECTED WITH NAVYFIELD ORRR NAVYFIELD:FLEET MISSION!

downloaded main client option 1 for XP.  after checking to see if zip file was blocked under properties(unblock, check read, then apply, if it is), unzipped right into download file, not moving it to programs.
 
checked to make sure start game icon present. made shortcut, placed on desktop. 

opened vcredist...x86 file.

note: neither dotnetfx nor vcredist..x64 files would open-ignore them. 

checked inside game guard file for extraneous zip file-not present.

closed game file, went to desktop, clicked start game shortcut.  ALL WORKED PROPERLY!

NOTE:  game runs but not as well as before the last 2 patches.  getting more crash/freeze and occasional inability to move R turrets.  but at least i can play.
