I was thinking, why not giving IJN SS5 a remodel like this way. IJN SS5 6 front tubes, Speed Cap 40/34, No aircraft space, air stays as is planed. Dmg stays as it is planed, 6 support slots, price as its planed. IJN SS5 remodel 6 front tubes, Speed Cap 35/30, 12 Aircraft space, 1 more minute of air given, dmg stays as its planed, 6 support slot.

Please guys, don't get emotional on this. Adding "FACT" before every sentence isn't helping either of you.
Both of you have valid points, just take some time and understand where are you coming from.

I will post something to contribute to this discussion. People are just seeing things differently.

Humberto, you are mainly thinking this discussion around current SS stats which we know might change in the future now that SDE is opened to an entire SS re-balance. So saying that SS1 can't do something, while its true now, its not a valid argument thinking about the future.

Just to provide an example: A DD with 1 high level engy is faster than a BB5 with 5 same level engys.

It's all about the caps and the ability to reach them... engy's main contribution in the game is OH, not speed.

Think about how you want those stats to be tomorrow, not how they are today. It might help you see what others are seeing =)

How about some "sister" class submarines.

Those that are essentially the same model (SS1-SS5), but have a slightly different configuration. Maybe a rear torp, a support slot shifted, a different gun, lighter, heavier, slower, faster...but not by much.

Of course, NF could offer adjustments to existing class subs. Adding tubes, changing guns. But that might disrupt the ever-obsessive, and infinitely impossible concept of "balance".

The problem with using real submarines in a play world, is that real WWII subs never encountered each other and never worried about that because of the vastness of the oceans and the impracticality of actually shooting torpedoes at each other. When SDE decided to use the model for IJN SS5, they thought it would be a cool application. It might be. It also could be a big dud.

Humberto's point that the IJN SS5 is essentially impractical in SS vs SS battles, ensures its weak stature in that regard. Regardless of how powerful the torpedoes are, if you can't get them to a target, then they will be useless. This type of ship is best at behind the BB line, launching TBs and guarding the BBs. A unique ship, but certainly no better than the SS4 as a regular submarine, and due to its size, more vulnerable.

A sub like this would have been fine in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean, not a small box like No Way Out.

well how about we just see how ALL the SS5's perform on the liver server and then after a week or 2 start making posts in the suggestions area?

Its all about common sense, 2 support slots and lack of displacement cant be faster than a sub that has more displacement and better engies.Unless SDE decides to change, then its another story. I dont have any problems by giving them more speed, to be honest. I believe they can have some more knots, but the way as they are , they are capable of killing anything, if played properly.

nyerkovic, dont take it wrong. But all submarines cant play the same roles. SS1 and SS2 are meant to play defensive and not offensive, ss1 and ss2 are the first stages of learning in how to use a submarine. SS1 and SS2 are to stay in the team and defend against another enemy sub, or by giving support to capital ss´s by assisting him in killing another Ace ss player.Making all submarines playing the same role, its wrong.

I agree, current SS stats (2 support slots and lack of displacement) cant be faster than more displacement and supports. But in this case, common sense is bound to stats and game caps. That's my only point. I'm not saying you are wrong or anything. I'm just saying you are bound to current stats and those stats can be changed. If you think about how stats can be in the future, you might see other options.

I agree with this too, I don't want every SS to be played the same. Different SS can play different roles and once again, this falls into the stats category.

So back to my main point and the contribution I wanted to make to the discussion. Current stats are not final stats, so please don't be bound by current stats when thinking about the future.

Until SDE says otherwise, we can play with all the stats to reach the SS gameplay that we are all comfortable with. You can change, displacement, speed, reload, turning force, damage potential, amount of torps... you name it. So please, don't be bound by current numbers.

That is the only point I want to make right now, stats and game caps can make a huge difference in gameplay... and those can be changed.

Again, the only excuses brought against me are "You hate subs"

Sometimes, I don't know why I bother.

My comments earlier in the thread were constructive. Same with the comments in the test server forum.

I just don't know why you are keeping up this huge vendetta. Kinda funny really.
