  • Hosts that don't host...

Wodyo
The other day, I saw a host leave his room, and return less than 10seconds later with no warning what so ever. The new host was not afk (blessing), and when the original host returnd he banned him.

If the new host wanted to be a host, don't you he would have hosted his own room? To top it off, a mod (hk707) was in the room. He didn't speak up until the 3rd or 4th time of the new host banning the original one. Its in my opinion hosts that leave are part of the cause of the 'go' spam that can end a room before even waiting 5 minutes.

My proposal here is this. Don't allow people, who host rooms and leave, to re-enter the room.

What about crashes? What if they forgot ammo/crew? If a ship configuration is chaned, or a differnt ship is deployed from the shipyard, or if the player has to login again, they can bypass the block.

It bugs the crap out of me that people leave rooms like that for no reason other than to just check other rooms - and it bugs me even more when its the host. Rooms could launch much faster if people would stay put. And if you want to host, you should set an example imo.

You dont so why even punish them when they try to enjoy a game?
HK707 btw is the head moderator of Nebby so Wodyo i think he knows what he/she is doing (from some other mods some dont)

If you read my first post, you'd see that I accounted for those who may leave for a good reason - crash/wrong setup/etc.

And just because hk707 may be the head moderator doesn't necessarily mean that he/she knows best.

All too often I've seen rooms go 10 minutes and disband because the new host either wasn't in his/her seat or wasn't paying attention even though the game alerted them of the change.

If you want to host, then host. Don't start up a room and then leave just to peak at other rooms. It slows the whole process down, and is frustrating to people who don't want to host or are in a hurry.

My only question is, what about hosts that have cats that like to walk on the desk? Figure that one out an I might go with it, but if little miss cutie jumps onto my keyboard, what then?

If you hade read what i wrote you would see that some mods dosent know what is best, and i know HK707 is one of the best mods he/she always help and is always fare no mater what.
If the host open the room he/she should host and i and many other players leavs the computer to fix some stuff under the waiting time for we know that the rooms take a time to fill up untill we can go, that means the second player some join the room might do other stuff some is more important then the game (trust me almost everything is more importing then a game).
All games is about having fun so just chill out and have fun

I was in the room and saw what Wodyo was talking about and I totally agree with what he is saying. If you have someone who opens the room, they take the responsibility for becoming the host, period. By leaving, they put the room in jeopardy of failing for a number of reasons:

1) The player behind them may have crashed
2) The player behind them is alt/tabbed and reading a story, picking out music, or watching portn
3) The player behind them is conducting fleet business
4) The player is in the bathroom, getting a drink, putting out the dog

This particular room had about 50 people in it. If you take the time to think about it, there are 49 other people sitting there, waiting for the game to start and suddenly you leave and run the risk of the game not being able to start. A key point to remember is that many players rely on hearing the "count down" sound to bring them back to the game. A new host might not be listening for the sound. 50 people's time is wasted.

I read posts in the forums all the time about people complaining about waiting for games to start, games crashing, disconnects and so on. Every one of them pretty much comes down to that people don't like their time being wasted. A host that starts a room without preparing first puts the whole lot of people at risk for wasting more time for no reason. By coming right back to the room, it was showing that he hadn't crashed and was fine. Irresponsible or unprepared hosts shouldn't come right back to a room full of people that he/she put at risk for wasting all their time.

Its a simple fix: add a sentence in the "rules" that says if a host leaves the room, he can't come back in. Its a bannable offense.

As far as the MOD in the room, hk707 goes, when he realized what was happening, he said that it wasn't currently a bannable offense. The new host and he did exchange words, but it was nothing terrible on either part. I think that hk707 was handed a s--- sandwich and that he handled it properly by stating exactly what the rules are and correcting the situation without going overboard.

i have no problem about this.but i only suggest that if host left his room, don ban him cause maybe he got problem like mention in last reply, or dissconnect ect, just be a new host for the other player.
and never be mad if u be the new host for the room
other player REMINDS the player that be the new host cause maybe he DIDN'T KNOW HE IS NEW HOST for the room.;)

I disagree AC.

If you want to host, and you set up a room, then you assumed responsibility to see it through.

I've accounted for problems - other than the cat on the keyboard, then you should teach your cat to stay off your electronics because they will kill them (trust me, I know).

Lionel summed it up perfectly. The person who left and rejoined the room left a perfectly good room with plenty of people, nearly ready to launch, and for no reason whatsoever. It should at the very least be a bannable offense equal to that of spamming.
