  • Losing Weight.

Desolate
Hello Gents,

Writing this to enquire on thoughts from some of you on good methods to either add or modify from my current workout.

For the record, age 23 height 6'3" weight (currently) around 430

About a month and a half ago I went down to Dallas,Tx for Semi-Tractor training to drive for Stevens Transport. Everything
was going well up until about the 4th day when they asked me to get down under their trucks. The truck in question is a
Kenworth T2000, with a ground effect that has a clearence of roughly </= 15" depending on the condition of the truck . I
wasn't able to get under it, and got hung up on my ribs, with my chest plate clearing just fine.

Since then I've devoted all my time to losing weight, and more importantly inches on and around my torso area/waist.

My exorcises include a 2+ mile walk every night, with 15-30 minute elliptical with about a 70% heart rate target, Jack-knife
crunches, regular crunches, 10 minute rowing, cardio-based dumbell training, and a few others. This training so far has
taken me down from 453(lbs) to 430lbs.. and I have gotten my diet in order for the most part.

Keeping in mind that my knee still acts up on me from an injury to it from years ago, what do you guys think?

Any advice is appreciated.

Right, like that ever stopped you before.

Last duck you violated still is undergoing therapy :)

thats faslse, massive misconception, crunches pack on muscle and do not burn fat. weight lifting does not burn fat. stay away from that until you have lost the fat first. fat is not potential muscle, they are two seperate things and require two sets of training regimes to lose and or build upon

Make sure you drink a lot of water. It keeps everything flushing through, but it's also good as a substitute for a snack. It's surprising how often people eat when really it's just that they're thirsty.

Good luck with it.

Drink lots of water, drink water whenever you would have a shake, a soft drink, juice even. Also, depending on what your target is, you might want to consider reducing your stomach size.

With regards to dieting -

Don't skip meals. Have a consistent diet where you eat all three meals in the day.

When you skip a meal your stomach goes into 'survival' mode of sorts resulting in more of your food (whenever you do eat next) being stored for later use (aka fat). By eating regularly your body knows it isn't going to starve and studies show you generally lose weight by not skipping a meal.

Obviously there are other factors (I.E. what you eat) too, but I found this one particularly interesting.

Everything else I know has been said :(

Good luck!

Actually, that's a myth.

Say you have a body that goes off of a 2000 calorie diet and reduce it to 1500. Now, assuming you do no workout and the only thing changed is 2000 to 1500, then in theory you will lose 1lb in a week. take it and reduce it to 1000 and you will lose 2 lbs a week.

With that pattern you would think that if it was reduced to 500, then 3 lbs right? Wrong... since your calorie intake is not enough to supply the body, it will not work as hard, due to not having enough energy intake, and you'll go down to maybe 2.4lbs a week instead.

So yes, if you starve your body you won't sufficiently lose as much weight, but it won't completely shut down it's fat burning.

-the more you know!-

Anyways, I've kicked up the workout in the past week; stopped counting calories and instead went back to counting minutes. Give or take 600 calories in 30 minutes on eliptical(going by the minutes and recording the calorie result, but not using it as a stopping point). Use that as a warmup, and then get into rowing, light dumbell cardio...

Hope to see results tommorrow when I weigh in.

You misunderstood what I said.

If you inconsistently miss a meal then your weight will mess up.

Let's say your average diet is 2000 calories.
One day you skip dinner and only have 1500 calories.
The next day you go back to normal.

If you have a habit of doing this then you end up storing more fat since you are sending inconsistent signals to your body (or something along those lines).

Or so I was told last year in my health psychology lectures.

It makes sense if you think about it though, although may seem counter intuitive initially.
