  • Italian Speculation

Italy had an interesting selection of real-life battleships. Would anyone like to join me in speculating what the Italian Navy will be like when released?

So far in Navyfield we have:

US- average / rounded battleships.

UK- Short range, high firepower, high protection (AW, supports), average manoeuvrability and speed.

KM- High range, low firepower, average protection, average manoeuvrability, high speed.

Japan – Average range, good firepower, (difficult to define style as few battleships)

France - Average range, good firepower, high speed, small battleships

Soviet – High range, high firepower, poor protection, low manoeuvrability, low speed.

I would like to speculate Italy what Italy might be like. With consideration of what we have already, the Italian Navy will (hopefully) offer a new play style. In the interests of balance I would like to speculate as follows:

Compact size battleships with tight turning / high manoeuvrability like the Andrea Doria (one assumes this must be the PBB?). It would be a nice contrast to the ship trees already in the game. We don’t have a nation with an emphasis on manoeuvrability as opposed to physical strength or armour protection. Maybe high rate of fire / lower firepower / lower range (again like the Andrea Doria?)

Please add your ideas / opinions / and ideas for CV and sub styles.

Looking forward to more details of this nation when its developed, any ideas when?

One thing for certain: good-looking ships with great paintjobs.

in history, Italian navy is not as strong as other naval nations, such as US, UK, or Japan, even france, maybe compareable with russia
but in Navyfield, we have to make them equal,

I think SDE will use their imagination,
Just please at least follow some basic rule of battleship design when design the Italy ships.

look at what they did to QV and MN BB6.
for QV, putting the Z turret on the top of the superstructure, will cause higher CG position, so the ship is unstable.
for the MN BB6, putting so many turret, just on the front of the ship, and the hull is so slim, the ship will sink by itself......

Monty can sometimes one shot BB6s? So far I have never seen an unarmored BB6 survive a full monty salvo at max range.

You cant base your speculations on the PBBs. All PBBs are fast with good turning.

well historically the italian battleships carriered no armour but where the fastest ships on the water at the time, experts believed the guns where fake aswell during the speed trials but for navy fans italy bb's should carry armour like the soviets i.e none. and be stupidly fast but give em slightly worse range then the brits.

but will just mean another hit and run nation but to keep it accurate thats what they will be

I am in complete agreement with you. SDE wouldn't be my first choice as naval architects go. The Charlemagne, as you well mention, is a navigating fiasco: too long, wide beam at the poop but too narrow at the bow (it'd better have a hefty tumblehome construction or large flotation bulbous bow). Anyway, it'll be fun to see those Italians: the finest looking ships ever (imo).

for bb
hmmm

range: middle of UK and IJN
gun angle: 30 - 35 degree max from bb1 - 5/6 ^^
shell damage : damage slightly higher of KM

for cv

fp
= average speed
= average damage
= durability hmmmm
tb
= fast speed ^^
= same torp damage as of km tbs
= durability same of km
db
= average speed
= same of km but slightly higher
= durability high(?) if agreeable

plane space = hmm above of SN CV plane spaces

SS
hmm got no guest, not a fan of subs :D
