  • Data Corrupted Issue - March 2011 Update

Our favorite issue is still with us, so long now that I've put a YEAR in the update in the
title. There's still no blanket fix for this issue, the updater still sometimes fails to
update your installation correctly and the result is the "DATA CORRUPTED" issue we've come
to know and loathe. Anyway, with the latest thread update, we've updated some of the
procedures slightly. (I'd say "enjoy", but I know you won't.)

There's no best way to fix it, as each fix depends on your PC's setup. And all our PCs
are at least a little different. But if you are seeing the DATA CORRUPTED message,
the method that has worked more often than not is as follows...

1 - Go into control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall Navyfield.

2 - Use regedit.exe to open your PC's registry. Search for "SD Enternet" and delete
anything it finds. (IF you are not comfortable editing the registry, you can skip this
step. But if it fails to solve your problem, you'll likely have to go back and do it again
and add in this step after all. People have reported success both with and without
this step.)

3 - Navigate to your SD Enternet directory (usually c:\program files\sd enternet) and
delete it and all subdirectories.

4 - reboot. (it's windows, it loves this step. =)

5 - Go to the DOWNLOAD section of this site, the GAME DOWNLOAD subsection and
download and install a fresh copy of navyfield. CNET will take longer but seems
always reliable, while SDE's link is quicker. (Current version is as follows...)

http://sdentglobal.nefficient.com/sdenternet/Download/NF1315.exe

6 - DO NOT START THE GAME AFTER THE INSTALL

7 - Now hit this URL and download the latest manual patch and run it.
http://www.navyfield.com/chkcount/chk_download_05.asp?Code=button_patch

8 - Compatibility Mode is no longer a good idea, since the Hackshield patch. DO NOT use
Compatibility mode.

Steps 5 and 7 combined bypass the updater altogether and install the latest version
of the game. This has worked for quite a few people. PLEASE test it out and let us
know if it worked or not!

IMPORTANT NOTE - some users have reported success by disabling their anti-virus
software during steps 4 and 6, as non-standard or out-dated anti-virus programs
can interfere with software installations.

THE LAST THING TO TRY

If you've followed the above steps and your computer is still trying to deny you your
gaming experience, please open a support ticket on the blue column to your left.
There might be something amiss with your account that only a GM can fix, or your PC
could have a non-standard setup that a tech mod could advise you on.

Your navyfield thing is not in a folder and none of the links work? Could you elaborate,
please?

Are you saying that you cannot find an SDEnternet folder on your PC? And are you saying
that the directions are not working for you, or that the links posted are coming back as
invalid?

If your PC fails to boot and gives a constant tone or a series of beeps, then you have a
memory problem on your motherboard. It could be intermittent, it could be a higher memory
register that only gets used occasionally. But either way, that's a hardware problem, and
you should have it looked at if it gives you fits.

Navy field's general problems are with video compatibility and file system permissions.
The first is usually solved by setting Compatibility Mode = Windows 98 on navyfield.exe
and the second by making sure the game runs as Administrator. But other file system
things can crop up, and something like that is causing the data corrupt issue. Basically
the patch file isn't being applied correctly, which could be anti-virus getting in the
way? Hard to tell.

is it possible that some hardware part is failing? because im thinking my cpu or graphics card is
partially fried. since one of my computer games doesnt work/ hasnt worked since my
computer started to have problems a year ago. ever since then its been random crashes, blue
screens at random times, failures to start with a constant beep, (seems like its flat lining to me
lol jk) ect.

but the thing about PC's being all different and having the currution on their own and ect is
intresting and seems like it might be the case... although, when i gave my hard drive to my
friend to rule it out as a possible problem, NF worked.. but when i put the hard drive back in my
computer and tried NF it gave me the curruption again. important note is when i started the
cleint after i got my hard drive back, it didnt download files, (i got the curruption message
again) but when i opened it again it started to download files, and im back where i started.

so from what i see on this computer, its not nessisarily the software, but a hardware problem...
did NF upgrade their cpu useage or graphics card need? idk just throwing it out there, still trying
to find out what the hell is wrong with my computer, about to give my comp to my buddy,
(who knows about comps and builds them/ works on them) and have him go through and try
to find out what it is i need to replace. (im thinking its the cpu or graphics card, although it could
be something completely different >.<)

Sorry for the terse response earlier, but I'm extremely frustrated. I just tried to
install, with your update of procedures. I had to uninstall my anti-virus, as it's
Bitdefender 2010. I also disabled my firewall. I'm running XP Pro SP3; AMD 2.7 GHz; 2GB
RAM; Nvidia 256MB 6 series. All updates are current. NF will open, but still getting
"data corrupt." I just don't know what else there is to do.

Sir,

the developers ARE working on this. It's costing NF paying customers, and they DO want it
fixed.

However, the issue is with individual PC's and their settings. All PC's are different,
and something common to many PC's is causing the issue. The Devs need to isolate and fix
that without being able to test or in some cases even replicate the problem, which is not
at all easy.

For now, it falls to a few of us Moderators to try and help the player base as
best we can. Without looking at your PC itself, we can offer only general suggestions
that have worked for multiple people. What it takes to fix your specific PC... that's up
to trial, error, and educated guesswork. At least until a fix-all patch comes from the
Developers.

In the meantime, have you tried reinstalling the game with your anti-virus disabled?
