  • Data Corrupted Issue - March 2011 Update

    03. 07. 2010 08:54

Stormvanger
Our favorite issue is still with us, so long now that I've put a YEAR in the update in the
title. There's still no blanket fix for this issue, the updater still sometimes fails to
update your installation correctly and the result is the "DATA CORRUPTED" issue we've come
to know and loathe. Anyway, with the latest thread update, we've updated some of the
procedures slightly. (I'd say "enjoy", but I know you won't.)

There's no best way to fix it, as each fix depends on your PC's setup. And all our PCs
are at least a little different. But if you are seeing the DATA CORRUPTED message,
the method that has worked more often than not is as follows...

1 - Go into control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall Navyfield.

2 - Use regedit.exe to open your PC's registry. Search for "SD Enternet" and delete
anything it finds. (IF you are not comfortable editing the registry, you can skip this
step. But if it fails to solve your problem, you'll likely have to go back and do it again
and add in this step after all. People have reported success both with and without
this step.)

3 - Navigate to your SD Enternet directory (usually c:\program files\sd enternet) and
delete it and all subdirectories.

4 - reboot. (it's windows, it loves this step. =)

5 - Go to the DOWNLOAD section of this site, the GAME DOWNLOAD subsection and
download and install a fresh copy of navyfield. CNET will take longer but seems
always reliable, while SDE's link is quicker. (Current version is as follows...)

http://sdentglobal.nefficient.com/sdenternet/Download/NF1315.exe

6 - DO NOT START THE GAME AFTER THE INSTALL

7 - Now hit this URL and download the latest manual patch and run it.
http://www.navyfield.com/chkcount/chk_download_05.asp?Code=button_patch

8 - Compatibility Mode is no longer a good idea, since the Hackshield patch. DO NOT use
Compatibility mode.

Steps 5 and 7 combined bypass the updater altogether and install the latest version
of the game. This has worked for quite a few people. PLEASE test it out and let us
know if it worked or not!

IMPORTANT NOTE - some users have reported success by disabling their anti-virus
software during steps 4 and 6, as non-standard or out-dated anti-virus programs
can interfere with software installations.

THE LAST THING TO TRY

If you've followed the above steps and your computer is still trying to deny you your
gaming experience, please open a support ticket on the blue column to your left.
There might be something amiss with your account that only a GM can fix, or your PC
could have a non-standard setup that a tech mod could advise you on.

I am now able to log on.

Seems like there is something wrong with the 1287 distro.

went through the above suggested process. Data file corrupted again. This is absurd. I
might keep playing but I sure as hell will not spend money here again.

If this server maintenance break doesn't come back with a SIMPLE fix then to hell with it.
Find a multi-player game worth the money you spend on it.

Okie, so I downloaded 1285, the manual 1286 patch and cleaned Navyfield from my computer.
Then rebooted. Installed 1285, then closed the installer (success). Opened the 1286
patcher, no errors. THIS time, 1287 patched 2 files, not 34. As the servers are down, I
can't fully test. But when I hit the log in button for fun, I didn't get any errors. So
I'm now hopeful that I (thanks to the tips!) have resolved my issue.

Seems like the patcher from 1283/1284 (can't tell what version I was) didn't download
right. When I installed the "latest" build 1287 file it was downloading 34 files. Now that
I tried the 1285-1286-1287 route I think it may just work.

Ok, I've downloaded the game and deleted it and been through the damned suggestions and
nothing is working.

Can SDE fix this or not? We don't all have unlimited download speeds here and it takes me
2 hours plus patchingtime.

So what's the deal? We spend money here and it would be nice if the simple solutions could
be used; like reloading a backed up prior version of the game. You can un-patch right?

hihi :) for those who have tried all recommendations, have you tried a combination
of a few recommendations?

like combining My method (thanks WP34 for the links) with a little tweak with
darkflared's

Here it goes:

1) As usual: uninstall NF and delete the SDenternet folder from your program files
folder in my computers

darkflared: - ***removing navyfield from registry by:
- Start/Run: regedit
- Edit/Find: navyfield and Find Next
- delete all folders and data that is named navyfield or sd enternet
- Find Next until all of navyfield is deleted

2) reboot cause your comp (necessary cause it loves it when there is a problem)

3) download NF1285 client ( yes is NF1285!! if NF1287 client method doesn't work
for you) via

http://sdentglobal.nefficient.com/sdenternet/Download/NF1285.exe

4) INSTALL both the client AND the ENFUSupdater

5) DON't start the game yet.

6) GET the MANUAL Patch 1286 via
***http://sdentglobal.nefficient.com/sdenternet/Download/Patch1286.exe***
Couldn't get link provided for 1.286 patch to work, did a yahoo search and found an
alternative site to DL the 1.286 patch @
http://download.mmosite.com/download.php?id=4066

7) Patch it and you shouldn't have the Auto patch or Enfunsupdated failed message

8) Move to your installation directory (typically "C:\Program Files\SD
EnterNET\NavyFIELD\" and right click on the NavyFIELD Launcher and NavyFIELD exe
and
select "Properties" from the pop up menu. Move to the "Compatibility" tab and
enable
either "Windows 98/ME" or "Windows XP SP3" compatibility mode. Click apply and
close. Be
sure to do this for both the Launcher and Main application.

9) START the game and it *SHOULD* autopatch to Patch1287 AUTOMATICALLY.

try it to see if it works. don't give up on the game :) if you still have any problem, do
send a support ticket to TNF and GMs :)

Well...I've tried everything. And I mean everything...nothing. Now even the launcher
won't run. I'm severely disappointed with SDE. All this takes is a roll-back to 1286,
until they fix the 1287 patch. Unless...they don't have a back-up. In which case, that
would be foolish. This problem has been in existence for over a month and no fix. I'm
sorry...but, this does not speak well for the SDE team. I'll give it a while longer, but
I feel the same...I hope that my time is not wasted playing the game.

I'm at a loss.

I've tried ALL support recommendations. Even manually removing registry entries.

I signed up for another account, its not my account settings its the auto-patch.

Something done to the auto-patch has completely hosed the game for me on every system.
Not even manually updating does the trick.

As soon as I try to log in using any account, data file corrupted.

I'm pissed. Been playing since, "beta" and have NEVER had as much trouble with this game
as I am having right now. I've filed a support ticket. I will file only one support
ticket. Don't blame the uncountable configurations of hardware on this. SDE devs caused
this. The auto patcher screws your install. Even after running the manual update, I
cannot get around the auto-patcher wanting to reinstall 34 damn files.

Yup, I really hope I didn't waste the hours, days, months and YEARS of playing.

I had the data corrupted problem on windows XP but I finally got it to work by:
- uninstalling navyfield
- deleting the SD EnterNET folder
- ***removing navyfield from registry by:
- Start/Run: regedit
- Edit/Find: navyfield and Find Next
- delete all folders and data that is named navyfield or sd enternet
- Find Next until all of navyfield is deleted
- then restarting computer
and then finally installing newest version of navyfield.

*** Note: editing registry can be dangerous so before deleting anything you should create
a system restore point and go on regedit and File/Export, select "All" on Export range and
save the backup registry on the the desktop so you can go back to the restore point and
import the backup if something goes wrong.
