As requested I have raised the game stability/crashing issue and I can report back that
yes these issues are constantly being worked on and our GMs in Korea beat up the Devs
about it on practically a daily basis for us. As always, the challenge is one of
configurations with the plethora of windows versions and system setups that we face in the
PC world. Consequently, there is unlikely to be one silver bullet that solves the issues
for all and for those lucky ones that dont need a silver bullet it is working out why
their's works fine.

To try and get some data together it might help if forum readers can answer the following
questions for us:

OS in use:

CPU in use:

RAM installed:

When you crash:

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc):

Wired Internet: Yes or No

Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? If yes, when?

Thanks in advance.

OS in use: Windows 7 (32-bit)

CPU in use: Intel Core2 Quad Q8400 @2.66GHz

RAM installed: 4GB

When you crash: While playing, sometimes in the waiting room.

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc): Freeze then
crash (connection to the server has been lost), most of my crashes are in game, the game
will just suddenly stop and will see a message on the desktop that the program has stopped
working, sometimes when I go to the desktop it will crash.

Wired Internet: Yes

Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? No, uses the windows shortcut button on
the keyboard.

OS in use: Windows XP

CPU in use: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93 GHz

RAM installed: 3 GBs

When you crash: Almost never

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc): When
loading up the game in the loading screen. Usually terminating the game's .exe
process and restarting works.

Wired Internet: No, cable.

Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? If yes, when? Yes, very frequently
in shipyard, waiting rooms, battle etc.

Gtdawg
OS in use: Windows 7 Professional (64bit)

CPU in use: Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 2.67GHz

RAM installed: I have had 4GB and 8GB installed (the same or similar crash issues for
both), 4GB currently

When you crash: (1) Right after pressing "Play Game!" the game will attempt to load
and then crash out, (2) when entering a game room all ships will not load, (3) during
game play with no symptoms of lag, (4) Right as the game ends as you go to the
rewards screen, the rewards screen doesn't load and the game crashes

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc): 1, 3, and
4 all cause the game to crash back to the desktop with a NavyFIELD not responding
error. 2 leaves the game frozen indefinitely and the game will either eventually crash
or you ctrl+alt+del to end the game and relogin

Wired Internet: Yes

Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? If yes, when? Yes, I try to only
alt+tab when looking at the battle screen or in the harbor. I would alt+tab while in a
battle room waiting for the game to split, but that causes the crashes to happen for
more often, I believe.

OS in use: Windows 7 (64-bit) one machine, Vista on another

CPU in use: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 ghz

RAM installed: 4Gb DDR2

When you crash: Very rarely, once or twice every few weeks. Although I had trouble in HA
when I had 2gb of Ram.

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc): Clicking on
Minimap causing a crash

Wired Internet: Yes

Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? If yes, when?
Yes, when I am waiting for a battle to start.

Thanks for the effort Vick, let's hope something good comes of it :)

OS in use: Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 bit

CPU in use: Intel Core i7 940

RAM installed: 12 GB DDR3

When you crash: Either failure to load the waiting room or while in the waiting room.

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc):
First one is a freeze, room loads partially, client then freezes. Normal restart of the
game is enough.
Second one is also a freeze, client displays the waiting room but has frozen without any
notice. Usually goes unnoticed until I try to move or type.

Wired Internet: Yes

Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? If yes, when?
I alt tab whenever I'm waiting for a battle to start and I have no conversations going on,
checking back regularly to see if something's happened. No issues with the alt-tabbing.

Also have a laptop running Vista 32 bit with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz and 4 GB of RAM,
have exactly the same problems with that, no additional issues.

ATFPanther
OS in use: XP SP3+

CPU in use: Pentium Duo 2.8 clocked to 3.2Mhz specifically built for NF

RAM installed: 4 GB DDR

When you crash: Random, but more so after a couple of hours (memory used increases) and
often have to restart at beginning as will not pass log in screen with rotating logo.

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc): Full freeze of
NF or complete crash to desktop or C++ error or "Has experienced a problem, will now be
closed"

Wired Internet: Yes or No Yes

Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? If yes, when? Only whilst in shipyard
or waiting room, never on loading.

Alternate PC

OS in use: Windows 7 Pro

CPU in use: Core i7 @4.2 GHz, 128 GB SSD, 5870 graphics

RAM installed: 6 GB DDR

When you crash: Every time tried to load in every compatibilty mode and every admin
permission I could apply.

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc): At best one
game with stutter and lag, 90% crash out on first load

Wired Internet: Yes or No Yes

Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? If yes, when? Never get the chance

I BUILT a Win XP machine just to play NF as the three Win7 machines I have in the house
will not play it. Since MN, my Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz laptop is unplayable as well, none of
the other machines in the house (another 6 Athlon 64 x2 3.2MHz, Pentiums, etc. and down)
play NF smoothly.
Minimum graphics card used to play NF succesfully 8800GT

Panther

I have crashed only 2-3 times this month. Usually in battle.
I have occasional screen freezes of 2-10 seconds, but not very often.

Yes I use alt+tab quite regurarly, in harbor, the battle channel, and waiting rooms.

I do have to kill the program the first two times I start the game, due to program not
responding. I think that may be because my Fix-Cleaner program removes the Eagle
NT file.

OS in use: Windows 7 (64-bit), Vista (64-bit), WinXP (VM)
CPU in use: Intel Core2 Du E8400 @stock (old pc) now i5 2500@ stock

RAM installed: 8Gb both machines, xp vm get 2 GB

When you crash: Every odd day the game launcher wont load properly or game goes black on
starting up, under vista/w7 a lot of game lobby freezes, like every 10th game lobby. When
using VM i get also the game launcher wont work crash but only like 1 ingame crash per day
or so

Type of crash (freeze, crash out of program, have to restart machine, etc): Loading
failure. Have to ctrl+alt+del, shut down the game and restart. never need a maschine
restart. killing the process if still there and restarting the game fixes most problems

Wired Internet: no
Do you use alt+tab in order to go to your desktop? No in VM, Yes in native Win7/Vista.
Mostly between battels (harbor), but sometimes also withing battle. Never seen a
correlation between chrashes and olace of my alt tabbing. cant rule out alt tabbing itself
though.

Vawlkus
OS in use: Windows XP Pro, Version 2002, Service Pack 3

CPU: Intel Core i7 CPU type 860 @ 2.8 GHz

RAM: 4 gigs running at 1333 MHz bus speed

Crashes: can happen at anytime. Frequently the first time I run NF I get the black screen
of dead (I let it sit for 10 minutes), requiring a Task manager kill of the game.

Wired Internet: yes

I seldom alt-tab because the game is not stable enough to be sure it will come back up. I
also leave the game running even if I go AFK for hours on end, since I can be certain I'll
need to restart my computer in order to run NF a second time (it will almost NEVER run
again once closed).

FYI: I have no lags or connection issues with any other game I play, including ones older
than NF, so compatability is not an issue. Some of my other games are graphic intensive,
and do not present any issues or lag while running.

I use a special copy of Windows when I run NF: there are only two programs installed in
that instance of windows: NF and Ventrillo. There are NO other programs running: no virus
scanners, firewalls, or anything. It runs on a dedicated HD, which is physically separated
from all my other HDs, and all my other HDs are disconnected while the NF drive is
running, due to ongoing concerns I have over Hackshield.
