  • USN DD, CL, CA Guide

    01. 28. 2007 10:35

LordKelvin
Welcome to my guide on the ships of the United States Navy in Navy Field! This
guide is a compilation of the knowledge of many players, new and veteran alike, and
is always growing. If you feel that something needs to be added, simply post in this
thread (or even better, send me a message) and I'll see if it's worth adding. I'm
always looking for more viewpoints about the ships in the game, so don't hesitate to
add something.

While the US is listed as being the most balanced nation in NF, many veteran players
will say otherwise from experience. Nonetheless, the US can be a fun nation to play;
some times you'll be very happy that you chose the US as your nation, though there
will also be times when you'll wonder why you chose it in the first place. It's true
that the US doesn't have any real strengths, but it also doesn't have many glaring
weaknesses, as the other nations do.

Flynnk has a good point: the other national subforums don't have guides of this caliber
=P. I believe this guide was created from a community project, where many people
contributed lots of info that was condensed into a nice, clean, informative, and
interesting H,C,aC:SotUSN guide! =D

If any well known KM/RN/IJN players were to start a project like this and actually carry
through with it, that'd be awesome. I know there's # of good guides in the KM subforum,
for example - like TheHelmsman's guide to light cruisers, lordsaxon's CV guide, g0ast's
starter guide, SirDante's BB guide, etc... it probably wouldn't be too hard to cobble them
together somehow and get some community info to plug in the gaps =D.

Well, of course, the coming ONF patch (praise them!) will render a lot of info outdated =P/

Great guide. In fact, your guide has spoiled me. I went to the other nations,
expecting to find guides of this quality, and was sadly disappointed. Thanks.

chagrin, you should know that level does not equal skill. look at timmyc. he has been here
longer than i have and is in bb1 or 2, yet he is a very skilled player.

1. Rankings tend to get outdated, as I have had multiple sailors above that level for a
few months now

2. As this guide is for DD, CL, and CA, you don't need a BB to know how to drive them
properly.

You still fail to bring up a valid point.

"It's a good thing that I've levelled up to and played with all of the ships in this guide
except for the Premium ships, Randall, and Portland then.

So what's your point?"

My point is that your ranking shows your highest level sailor at 58 -- under BB2 level.

For pensacola specifically, if you so desire:

With triple 12's, its not really useful until you have 70+ gunners, getting a better
spread is pretty much essential when you only have 6 shells.

In blitz, I find the best way is to armor whore it with 7+ inches of deck, and go with
triple 8's, which you can block or get a good spread as early as the 50's.

This may not be feasible for all, as 7+ inches of deck costs over 2 million credits.

Even running the RF guns will allow you to fit that much armor, use those for
rapidfire triple 8's. This set up is absolutely unbalancing in blitz games, if you can
block the triple 8's. You can 3 shot ships up to CLs if you know your angles, and CAs
other than HA counties usually can't hurt you.

This will even work for CA BB1, I averaged maybe 30-40k with this set up in there,
just rush and pound.
