  • Define: Shell bouncing.

Due to a small debate on this term, I've been giving it some thought.

The proper definition of a shell "bouncing" should be doing 0 damage on both SD and DP, but that is rarely the case.

Usually, when a ship is AWed, it reduces the damage of incoming shells significantly, for example, a AWed QV will sometimes take 100 damage per shell (instead of 0) from a Kaiser at 40 degrees whe it's AWed.

This damage dealt is quite insigniciant to the DP of the QV (41000 or so), but it isn't a true "bounce" of said shells.

My question is,
What would be the proper definition of a shell "bouncing"? And if there is none, could one be made with a defined percentage of damage reduced by the AWed ship?

For example, if an AWed ship reduces the damage of a shell hitting it by over 80% of it's potencial damage, it is concidered a partical bounce, while over 90% is concidered a full bounce.

Has anyone made a plot of salvo damage vs. deck amount for certain ships? I would be interested in seeing that. It would be a bit tedious though. Angus if you want to do that find me on vent.

I can't define it in the way that you would like, but I can describe how it sounds according to Hollywood: "Tink, tink, tink." /s =.=

Desolate
I always see shell bouncing as double digits or less visible damage.

Rarely? Not at all. I've gotten bounced by AW QV while using my BB12 and vice versa.

Oh and the best part was when I used my Dreadnought BB. I got bounced by everything armored even if it was partially armored. AP at max angle would also be bounced for 0 damage. Makes me not regret selling it to harbor shortly before SDE decided to count EBB as a unique ship that wont take up harbor space.

about your shells bounceing i think ive heard that the new york at very low angle guns and i think AW stuff under angle 38 gets really hard to kill im not sure some one correct me

Bouncing for me has always been a shell that was fired at such an angle that it hit the deck armor and did zero damage. I don't believe anything else is considered a "bounce" because any amount of damage implies it actually did something to the ship other then scratch it (even if it is just 10 damage out of 41,000)

I'd say who cares, it is really a useless issue to be concerned about. If a ship is awed with quite a bit of armor it is obviously going to be reducing the dmg taken by significant amount, if not awed then whtever. Bouncing shells is just the common language used for reduction of dmg against awed ships. Why should we get so hung up on that, lets focus on stuff that the game really needs help on. Such as KM balancing or sub balancing etc.

E2L, to rephrase the question for you, how much damage reduction by armor is significant? 50%? 70%?, etc.

I see why you made the thread now, important still more important things, but a good thing to know for all gameplay and future balancing.

I know it's an arbitrary amount, but like you said, it's very, very helpful to us who are trying to help balance the game.

The part that makes it important is the AWed L2. How much damage should it "absorb" into it's armor even after the submergence nerf? :S
