  • PBB or EBB1/2? Which of the three is better?

So, I've set my sights on the Seva for this event, but I've come to have some seconds thoughts about it.
Namely, whether or not to get a New York or Mississippi instead.
So, which IS better? what are the largest guns the NY or the Missy can handle? Are they more effictive than the Seva?

The NY has it's own guns, and pretty much has to stick to them. They have roughly the same range as the 12" mk8L triples and they don't hit very hard. But they have a 15 degree max angle, which makes them FUN. It's really hard to MISS with those guns. That said, the NY EBB is slow, so it's a liability in a GB style game.

The Mississippi EBB2 is basically a NM30 with a bit more displacement and another support slot (same as NM45). It can carry the 14" mk7L triples and has little usable T slot space. In that regard, it's pretty much a NM45 that cannot handle AA guns. But what it DOES have is the ability to use those 15 degree guns. With those guns you can hit 45 knots while armored and sporting a 120 level crew, and this is a fun ride. Otherwise there's not much to recommend the boat.

If you can earn enough coins for the Maryland EBB3, that's the strongest of the three. Four turrets of SoDak 16" guns make it a viable alternative to the Iowa class. (not a superior ship, but an alternative)

like storm said, ebb3 maryland would be a better choice than the PBB.
Although, i'd say that it is easier to play in the PBB Sevastopol since it is a skinny ship that is structurally stronger and have better spread. (ie. maryland would take more skill/work to do well - has more potential to do more damage)

new york is more of a fun ship; although it can still be dangerous.
mississippi is pretty much a new mexico with bigger gun space (colorado gun space). I look at it as the 5th US BB2 since it doesnt stand out that much.

putting the ships approximately into the BB tiers, you sorta get this:
ebb1= bb1 (or 0.5 if you rate it by its range); Ebb2 = bb2; Pbb= bb2.5; ebb3 = bb3/3.5.
this is probably what you were looking for.

But again, you cant compair ships like that and say which is "better." It will all depend on how you drive it.

I have been told that the Sevas has a gun placement like this:

Front Rear Front Rear

..which is kinda funky for some BB players, shying away from it. I think that the turning angles of the guns would be the deciding factor for it.

Correct. And that makes tight spreads almost impossible. No matter what you do, your broadside will be spread out in a line and not centered around one point. So you reach a point where your gunners get so good that the ship sux. Hopefully you're ready for Iowa by then.

But honestly, the US BB2 are so good that you don't need a premium battleship to dodge them. (Unlike the UK-Repulse and KM-either lines, which really benefit from having a PBB to hide in until they hit BB3 level.)

So my advice, take an EBB. They're hard to get, and you can always purchase a PBB after the event if you want.

The reason I didn't ask about the Mary is simple: I'm lvl 72.
My biggest problem in the colo is lack of range, I just arn't fast enough to weave in and out of the line and don't have the range to engage the enemy line.
So, I was at first considering the PBB because it has more range, and more guns(if I remember correctly) but then I noticed the EBBs and wondered if they would be more capable of reaching the enemy line then the PBB.

As for the accuracy, I only have average gunners, and (from what you say) the spread would be nearly the same

wrong

sevastopol have the same range as colorado (probably like 1mm difference, if any). With your crew, the only reason why you MAY do better in the sevastopol is because it's skinnier and structurally tougher. The sodak will have a slight range increase from colorado but you will still get out-ranged by most BB3s. Like i said before, there is no easy way out of the grind except for changing how you drive the ship.

Good to know, I'm just so used to getting outranged by the Seva that I thought it would be nice to have.
However, I have no intention of "getting out of the grind", only in finding a way to finally engage that pesky enemy line. ;)

In a word... patience.

You have to follow along the main battleship line, a little further from the enemy than the BB4 and BB5 that are doing all the shooting. Then you wait. Mount AA guns or hedgehogs and an escort FF so you have something to offer the main line and scout, scout, scout. And when the enemy line bulges out toward you or they are blind, cut hard in and start shooting, and make lots of course changes.
