RMS Titanic was 880 ft long

RMS Queen Mary II, which I've seen getting tugged backwards because she was too long to turn around in Halifax harbour, one of the world's largest deep water ports, is 1100 ft long...

...and she isn't even the biggest currently on the water

In her day, the titanic was record breaking, but by today's standards, she would be just another cruise liner

I would be interested in the purposes of the chimney. Now that we move into gas/oil combustion.

Further, modern engines provide greater power and requires less space. We would have more space to stock in the compartment.

I would be happy to visit her .

If they made another attempt at a record breaking cruise liner it'd be nice, but a modern titantic would just be another cruise liner. And it'd probably charge 3x the rates for it's "historic voyages." or voyage in it's case

I saw this as I was flipping through BBC news on my phone the other day.  They are apparently building her as an exact replica save for safety concerns. 

I'm assuming they will have proper lifeboats, a larger rudder, double hull, competant communications officers. 

They said the bridge is going to be very advanced as well.

I personally am excited to see if they actually accomplish this.

Being built with a view to paying tribute to the workers who made the Titanic originally, so they build it in China, not N. Ireland...

Yes, the fact that the original was built in Ireland and now the next Titanic is being built in China is quite a smack in the face to the people of Ireland. Maybe they can build it on a lake and make a museum out of it. I guess a cheap, near slave labor force, is more economical!

And so we will have chinese version of Jack and Rose eh?
