The guam doesn't suck. Its just a majority of players play it wrong when they start off.
Playing the Sodak and other rush Oriented play-style ships teaches you how to play the guam more correctly. The gun and run playstyle fits her well. Wait for a time where the enemy is distracted facing other ships or when they are blind, rush in get 1-3 salvos off (Weaving in and out of your own range during this stage) then hightailing it out of there, rinse and repeat.
Alaska on the other hand....Is just a fat cruiser.
Guam and Alaska are almost the same Ship, the only gain you get on Guam it's an extra slot and little more GunSpace (only 2 binds of ammo with Alaska for 12'L and (i don't remember correctly) 4 (or 6?) for the Guam.
play Rush with a 45º gun? doing 200K or less damage every shell? IOWA size for a BB1? hell. its better to play a cleveland than a Guam... you'll be doing more damage per battle
besides everyone knows how Alaska/Guam sucks, and therefore everyone who has any idea about this game will take enemy Alaska/Guam from the middle in the first place and almost everybody can do it (i have killed alaska/guam with CA a LOT)
its by far better to play with a capped acc. CA Baltimore (Gunners will start blockshotting at low lvl)
You are looking at it wrong.
Guam doesnt suck. The range is mid to low, the hangtime takes a bit of time to get used too, and the spread can be iffy in the low 60s, but the damage is good, the speed quite fine, and the hitbox is slim (iowa hitbox is an advantage in NF). Being long when you maneuver well isnt much of a disadvantage.
However, the ship to shine does take more skill than your average first-go BB player have. Its also why I say USN is a great school to give you lesson quick on learn or die. Guam teach the basic of cautiousness and hit and run, while also giving a crash course on how to play high angled gun(which aren't worse or better than low level guns. They are different). While they learn that tough, they are good food for higher level BBs.
But if a Guam is cruising around in a BB5 range, dumb rushing it in plain daylight, it could be ANY ship (safe h4x hitbox ships like an IM, an AD or a paris) its going to go down in flames. Its not the ship that cause the situation where it got sunk, but the player at the helm.
The argument "I killed that ship what that ship class" validity is questionnable at best.
I killed a nagato with an at level AH once. Does that makes the nagato a sucky ship?
