It adds no function to the game other than pure eye candy. The more things that pop up on the screen the more clutter adds and that is just the start of the slippery slope. Eventually people will cry for sub warnings and even DB warning (which they have on the old forum suggestions). Note why some players opt for the slim HUD.
I mention the torp warning because this game will use the same input script for ship prox and output script for text and possibly voice which will more than likely be buggy. No it is not an easy system.
I also mention it because the number of people who ignore torp warnings will be the same who ignore crossing warning and the people who do pay attention are the ones who probably are aware of themselves enough not to tk.
And there is no reason to broadcast this message less than a second before the ships touch because by then ship are already on top of each other fingers will already be on the space bar .
