Ship Tuning Balance and Design

I'm making this thread on behalf of the test team to take a moment to explain the various ship tuning components and other related changes that have occurred in the above patch, as well as some of the reasoning behind these changes.


The team who worked to bring this together were nyerkovic, ljsevern, Rehor, Farazelleth, BBR_InsUW, richardphat, GrieferLord and myself.

I would like to begin with what is most important, players should realize that this system is still very new and this system will be monitored closely to see the effects on the live server and there may be some changes requested in the future to correct bugs and fix any exploits or unforeseen effects.

The added speed is countered by the extra weight, so the speed is actually the same in the end.

lol good point, also the fightercvs and aa ships can't benefit from the 10% bonus although they also get affected with the tune components.

after all the anger (rightly so) and hype and crazyness of the new tuning system, i can say that after the test teams work and adjustments its at a stage i can actually stomach it and can live with it.  nice work and explanation.

Well this is true, although, a tuned FF FCS when not balanced would be better than the DD aiming one...

I'm glad the effort we all put in alleviated some concerns of at least one person.

It just looks stupid that the lowest class ships get nothing.

And really?  You're going to bring the integrity of balance into this?  and on top of everything for an FF FCS.

But also keep in mind something - you said a tuned FF FCS.  FF DON'T get any tuning items + they are receiving a nerf.

Don't do the SDE dance - just agree.  For those of us who have held onto neut crews for years it's quite insulting.

I admit, FF FCS shouldnt have been changed. It was me personally that added that to the list of changes and I will get it corrected next patch. I thoughtlessly corrected ALL CA and lower FCSs without bearing in mind that FF couldn't use tuning components, I'm sorry.

 

However, neut DDs can also use the FF FCS with the tuning component, which would have been better than their own FCS. But that is being pretty pedantic and I agree, FF should have been left alone. Also, Aiming FCSs weren't affected, only Auto ones, Aiming is the same as always.

So we are drawing the line at DD FCS?  I don't think people are going to be as upset about that as they are about tuning in general.

If FFs were allowed to have at least 1 tuning item while throwing off the FCS for the lower tier dds, I don't think anyone is going to care.  There are far bigger issues that would complicate balance than the FCS on FFs/DDs.  If we're really that worried about DDs I think we could compile pages of balance issues.

And don't take things personally ~ I know you're just working with what you are given.

While I can't say anything about potentially giving FFs a tuning slot (which I think they don't have just to ease the experience of new players a little, since those are the people that use FFs the most) I can at least get the FF FCSs changed back, since after a quick review it can be done without any damage.

 

And I can take it personally, because it was me personally who came up with the idea of nerfing all the DD/CL/CA FCSs so that the Auto FCS Acc part would work without any Autos overtaking Aiming FCSs and I'm the one who compiled the entire list of FCS changes, so it literally was my mistake. I was thoughtless and I'm sorry, I shouldn't be causing any stupid issues like this. I'll remember it to get it fixed soon as it can be.
