5/1/2013 PATCH NOTES <-- Link

Ship Tuning Balance and Design

I'm making this thread on behalf of the test team to take a moment to explain the various ship tuning components and other related changes that have occurred in the above patch, as well as some of the reasoning behind these changes.

The team who worked to bring this together were nyerkovic, ljsevern, Rehor, Farazelleth, BBR_InsUW, richardphat, GrieferLord and myself.

I would like to begin with what is most important, players should realize that this system is still very new and this system will be monitored closely to see the effects on the live server and there may be some changes requested in the future to correct bugs and fix any exploits or unforeseen effects.

Read on for information regarding many of the changes made in the v1.369 patch, as the second post of page 1 of this thread.

Rehor

But if I suggested you were a poor player, I'd be banned immediately.

Pretty sure they want a credit sink, just, not this.

Well, this would have been a pretty nice credit sink, some smaller versions of this avaliable for credits. Much more better way for fighting against inflation than the trade board taxes.

But unless they were incredibly overpriced, there would have been tons of them around and SDE didn't want that, maybe because it would have a detrimental effect on latency or something.

I agree, a credit sink is needed, and this could have been it, but personally I never have seen consumables work as credit sinks, but rather single huge purchases, which also works as incentive for those who don't have a ton of credits to go and play even more. So, I can sort of see why SDE might not have wanted this to be the solution.

If you read what I said originally I solved this problem. Single huge purchases incourage hacking more because people see no other way of getting huge amounts of credits and average players wouldn't want to spend all their credits on something huge.

The system could be like rentals, you can't stock pile them. But hay what do I know. I'd keep the trade board tax, increase bb6 repair costs and allow tier 1 rentals available to all (or perhaps weekend events allowing rentals to be purchased by all) admitedly rentals need reviewing, making higher tier better but making all use of rentals and investment in harbours worth while.

But this was and still is a great opportunity to introduce credit bought items. It's interesting that they weren't bothered about people stockpiling them from olive sales because there weren't any olive exploits were there!!!!!

I played around 5 games till the end can't remember if I won or not (it was 3/2 I think) but got no drops. Interesting that the free speed up increase wasn't replaced with a different one when it was binned. Not that I'm bothered as I'm not going to use them anyway.

Needing more credits = more incentive to credit hack, regardless of if you need 1 large payment or 30 small payments every 30 days. More credits, more attempts to hack.

Tbh, a lot of what you say is fair, but it wasn't my decision, I'm only really offering some guesswork. I displayed the reasons given to us, cos we knew people would like to see an actual reason from SDE. Nothing more I can contribute really.
