A lot of good points were made in this thread. Most of the stupid ones were shot right down. I actually learned a few things by reading closely about what the vet CV drivers are doing. Thanks for posting! Some of the topics that I found interesting and I agree something needs to be done are :
AA ships - I saw one or two drivers talking about how they aren't hard to avoid. I'm a relatively newer CV driver but I've found its a mixed bag. You can tell the new ones by the massed amount of fire but the surprising lack of hits as your planes go right on by. BUT, you get two good ones side by side, forget it, you are done. Usually they are working in pairs; you try to bomb one and the other is covering him. There are also some good BB drivers out there with AA loaded and take out single planes with ease. I don't think giving bombers more damage is a good idea. I do think that having them take more damage is a good idea. Let the AA ships work a little more.
All fighter CV - I know that the vets don't like me saying this, but you guys make playing a newer CV pretty darn tough. I learned from you guys about the magic number of bombers being either 3 or 6. Being a BW makes me a liability to the team as I can't scout or defend myself. So if I'm running 3 waves of bombers, that means I need to run 3 waves of fighters to protect them. There are HORDES of all fighter high level ships. Most of them are CV5s and PCVs, either IJN or USN. All it takes is two of them on the same team and most of the map is now covered. So here I am in my average joe CV4. I've got L70s-L80s planes. Now, I'm facing L100s planes and they are putting 10-20% more in the air on each wave. If that isn't enough because I'm trying to bomb, they are now launching 10-12 fighters while I'm launching 5 fighters and 4 bombers. When this happens there isn't much you can do. I trying sacrificing my fighters so the bombers can go. I try flying around them. I try leading them off course with fighters, I try flying fighters at higher alt and bombers at lower. Sometimes I even fly into the #$%@ AA ships fire to shake them off. Even if I get through once, most of the time you go down in flames. One or two people have commented here that they walk away when they see the AA ships build up. At least you can fly away from them! When I see and all fighter midway with the name "$$$$" or "bread winner" or whatever, that really isn't any different than the AA ships. I scout the other CVs and if I see that there are more than 2 of them, I leave. I don't mind playing against one to see if I can win and having a second one on my own team is fine. Having them blanket the whole map makes it impossible. Also skill can only make up so much ground when you are over matched.
Flaming - Some is fine, but when they are both utterly retarded and repeated its too much. I saw comment about all CVs going in one direction. I don't do that but I've had games where after we split up, five minutes later here comes my partner... no one singles out bad BB players only CVs and I'm sick of it. I call out BBs that can't hit the target while my fighters are dying for their precious vision. I also call out surface ships that can't AA, fail to stop SS from penetrating the screen or don't carry a scout. Most flamers are the worst drivers, otherwise they won't be depending on me to cover up their mistakes.
Final point is the wait for rooms - You know what, I like it! There, you want to hate on CVs and make the play miserable? Guess you wait. Nice thing for me is that there are always 2-4 rooms available and waiting for my CV. If I don't like all the AA in a room or if I don't want 2 all fighter lexingtons and an all fighter midway, I just go into another. It sure makes leveling a lot better because I don't have to wait as long for games to start. So despite some of the issues, I just keep with it. If others want to give up, let the all fighter CVs or AA ships drive them out, thats fine. Too many people just don't have the guts to stick with it, learn from mistakes and get better.
