For me, the main issue not to play my FW CV is XP. It ensures winning more often than running a mixed setup, sure, since you can have 18+ Fighters up the same time - but what is the use of a win if the XP gain sucks so bad. FWing can be fun when you have BBs on your team that make use of the other team's blindness (and boy they sure enough don't do it very often) but it's not very rewarding. On the other hand, with all the BWs running around (Tico BW much?), it's easy to nom on fat, juicy Bombers and make easy creds.
As for the abuse - I got used to it. I have to grin every time when a rushing BB gets hammered and yells "THANKS NOOB CV FOR NO SUPPORT" and yet I know I scouted his side virtually constantly. It's easy to blame someone else for your own fail so it's slightly less embarassing to be a bumrushing buffoon.
I admire Ljs Jedi reflexes while changing alt when under fire by enemy AA but even when you micro let's say 3 wings with different alt all the time they get eaten sooner or later when you haveto face a Moltke, 3 Emdens plus a SY and a H44 that like to grease your FP. On the other hand, they usually kill friendly FP BEFORE they kill mine.
About the Fighter balance - my IJN CV5 (Pilots in the 100s range) is rusting in my harbor since my 80ish KM FPs already perform better than the Japs. And both nations' pilotsl are +12 BVE, mind you. The only REAL hindrance are certain US T4s at times, I guess the supervetted elite ones.
