  • Why do you personally not come to test sessions?

Hey everyone. Just an open question.

We need people to help with battletesting and give their opinions on them during
test sessions. Obviously, if you couldn't make this weekends due to a one off event,
that isn't the point of the thread, its for those that don't attend whatsoever.

Is it because you would rather gain exp on the main server? (A valid point, if that is
your opinion, please tell us that).

Is it due to lack of rewards?

Is it due to the account system there, and having to class all the crew?

Is it due to technical issues?

Or, are you just not interested (again, a valid point)?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On top of that, not many people partake in the test server discussion board. What
are the reasons for that?

i think its boreing. i have no interest in trying new features until they spend some time
fixing the old ones..

also they dont listen to us or read our threads either, and most of the good suggestions
just get completely ignored.

so why should any one bother ?

instead they would rather create a rediculously massive battle ship with lots of guns a
rail gun and then try and talk to us about it ??

even if it isnt real they still have put alot of thought into it to even come up with the
images. that is time that could have been spent doing more fruitful things. like solving
balance issues reading suggestions and so on. (fixing lag)

I was actually going to do it this last time, but I took an nap and was late by an hour. I
went on the mumble and no one was there, so it must have been done and over.

Maybe also we need a new word for balance. Alot of people think balance means
everything is equal in all ways. In reality its more like yin and yan (messed that up im
sure) but something like that.

Could always call the test server "hope and change", its worked before.

As much as there are ship miss balances, the overall battle field rooms as for tactics of
what does what or supposed to do what. Hard to balance a game for a knife fight
when someone brings a gun.

5TH, If you think that h44's range should be increased you can prove it during the testing
phase. I know talking to some of the vets might be hard, but it's thousands of battles and
sunk ships that make us feel this way about a certain ship and I'm talking top notch HA's,
FW's, BB rooms etc. with the best players getting in to have, a competitive fun game.

Lots of intereting points, - I only have one issue with the testing.

I prefer to be challanged with what the game developers gave us in the first place.

I am happy to challenge myself to overcome, adapt, learn to play against (stronger -
weaker) class of ships. Using this knowledge made the game interesting, now
everything is more or less "BALANCED" there is nothing to learn, therefore the
testing and balancing is pointless the game has become pointless.

Hm, well for one it is quite a hassle. Simply choosing the server from within the game
client would be much simpler ;)

Secondly, you should not assume that the lack of participation means no interest in
balancing the game. In fact we (me and one of my friends) are really interested in this work.

However while i agree with some of the changes being made and tested, all previous
attempts to discuss glaring problems that have existed for a long time (H44, subs, CV
fighter balance to name a few) were met with stern resistance from usually the most vocal
(and presumably most active) testers. In fact the difference in opinion was and still is
so great that after being shut down for the nth time with the comment "H44 is fine" (to
take an example) that a certain resignation has taken hold.
To keep with this example.
Having 4 BB5s in harbour for almost 2 years now (yes, been here a while) i still think
that the original ONF (Obst) suggestion of increasing its range is valid. That thing is
simply so easy to kill (actually i did like sinking them for a while, but it gets old) it
needs something to help it live longer.
However even the suggestion of increasing range (a reasonable amount) seems to approach
blasphemy. So since there is such large discripancy of what is "balanced" and what is not
i for one have simply given up and settled for a wait and see approach, keeping my opinion
about it mostly to myself (except for this wall of text, feeling talkative today), since
im tired of talking against walls. (Thts what it feels like to me, no offense)

With this said i believe that with MN and SN you are on the right track and ill definitely
check it out once ! it has gone live.

So keep up the great work. I may not agree with you on some things, but your commitment to
the matter deserves praise.

Hmm. Maybe having another set of data tables in a separate folder? This would make the
test server easy to run for the players and would also save some 700mb of sounds and
models. However this would require SDE to do some actual coding, which might be an obstacle.

The one I had in mind was altering the clients memory. And there seemed to be no
serverside check of whatever is send back made any sense or not :)

True, but I am pretty sure most of the hacks suggested would be taking server packets,
either Freezing, or changing their value. Again I could be completely wrong.

Alternatively we could use an argument with the updater to download everything required
for the test server into a separate folder.

Doing the above would make it harder on SDE but easier on the player base, as we would
only need to type in 1 short argument for test server/updates for it, And to go back to
normal servers simply removing it
