Hi all..
Agreed with the original post, the xp on CV i think needs a lot of sorting out.
I also hope many BB players and non CV players do read this post to hopefully understand why CV's play the way they do.
As already stated above, weather a CV can get a large amount of damage or very small amount of damage, it makes little difference to the xp gained from that battle. It can also be said that killing a lot of planes or a little also seems to have little effect on the XP gained.
I.E. CV2+ shoots down 1-2 scout or bomber or fighter planes and get NO damage - This CV can still achieve best part of 10-20k xp( i have made 28k once with this score, shared XP i will guess). On the same CV crew i have also achieved around 15k in shotdowns and over 100k attack with the end result of 48k xp. Not that i can make the point much clearer, but also a 40-60k attack and say 7-8k shotdown ,which is a very average CV score ,still only gives around 25-35k xp - usually the 25k range.
With that said i hope it is obvious why CV's bomb more than BB's would like them to :). The CV pilot has little choice if they wish to gain a good amount of XP to level up to bigger ships. Shotdowns improve the CV's xp very little, unless it is a fighter CV and even then they will need to shotdown a LOT of planes to get any resonable xp. This is not including the sheer effort it will take to get 20k+ of shotdown to achieve 30k+ xp, basically its easier to bomb for the XP.
Also in comparision to a BB player, it would be like 1 bb killing half the enemy fleet and getting near 200k+ attack, (seriously to anyone not used a CV, to get 20k+ shotdown is a LOT of effort and concentration),then getting 40k xp for all that effort.
Also for the lower level CV's it is usually more efficient to run a heavycruiser for as long as possible instead of using the 1st and even 2nd CV's available, because of the large amount more XP at the same level. It is possible to get 20k+ xp with AAW'ing in a CA with a shotdown of around 3k(not hard), compared to CV1 and 2's ,with low level fighters, to even get 2-3k shotdown in most battles is a great achievement(not easy), but if they can they will get around 5-8k XP a game, they may do better if they can achieve over 60-80k attack(in a CV1-2?).
For me it goes without saying CV xp needs a long overdue overhaul. Personally i love using my fighters to clear the sky before sending in bombers. If i find i cannot control the sky well enough, i will decided not to use bombers at all, but this way of playing clearly affects my xp(low xp). I will not change my playing style as i love playing CV's , but for most low level CV players it is very little use for them to send out fighters just to be killed, and never get any attack for there xp to improve, so again they have little choice but to bomb bomb and bomb some more, and rarely give eyes for the BB players. Its not that CV's FAIL, sorry had to get that in there, but that they have little choise but to play for there own XP and not play well for the betterment of the whole team. If SDE could change the way XP works for CV's would really help to improve the amount of CV users in my opinion.
Overall the XP needs an increase to get people back into them, they are the hardest class in all the game to use in my opinion, yet they get the lowest xp of most classes at same range. The lower level pilots need more xp for there efforts, as it is 10x harder at that level. Higher level CV's need to work harder for there xp, but still in general they need a comparable to BB level increase, so they actually get the XP they deserve for there efforts.
All in All as stated above CV's are good fun but hard to play well, any incentive to get more CV's in the game is a good idea in my opinion. But to have bad XP when you just OWNED the sky leaves people thinking, BB's are much easier to play and i get my XP for my efforts.
