  • Ship Tuning System + Update 2

    03. 28. 2013 19:35

TeamNF_MK2

Hello all,

As many are aware, a new "ship tuning" system that we have previously noted as in development has been patched to the test server. We welcome everyone interested in this new system to test it out for themselves before passing judgment as it should add a fresh new layer of game play aspect to the game.

This new system at its most basic form will consist of a number of new "time-limited" items which provide specific alterations to the respective ship they are applied to. The following details are also important to make note of:

1) Items of the same type will not stack.

2) Each item will offer 3 days of functionality. The items do not have to be set or used at any specific moment; the 3 day timer will begin once an item becomes "equipped".

3) Once an item is removed or replaced it will be discarded.

4) An (1) item will only provide a "tune" to the (1) ship selected to equip the item. The item's effect will not carry over to all ships.

5) At most, these items may increase a specific ship's performance by 5-10%. This should provide players a new unique ship experience, but it certainly will not damage in-game balance. Please be assured that we are taking all steps necessary in order to maintain proper balance. This is our highest priority.

6) These items are not being developed as essential items. They are intended to be utilized as a supportive item and to enhance game play by opening up new strategic opportunities.

7) The available item slots currently being considered (may be altered through testing if for example, results are not favorable for items applied for ships in blitz):

BB - 3 slots

CV - 4 slots

SS - 2 slots

CA - 3 slots

CL - 3 slots

DD - 3 slots

FF - none

8) Once introduced, there will be a daily ongoing (no end date) "Free Item Drop" for these ship tuning items. This will allow all players a chance to have fun trying some different items out every once in a while.

9) All players will be provided a free "speed-up" item at launch to get accustomed to their use and application.

10) There will be payable items as well as items exclusive to the "Free Item Drop".

Example of exclusive payable items (names tentative): R mount shell space increase, aircraft space increase, fighter attack power up

Example of items exclusive to "Free Item Drop" (names tentative): R mount reload time decrease, Accuracy increase, aircraft speed increase

Example of items both paid and free (names tentative): ship speed increase, air tank increase, aircraft fuel increase

As should be noted, items available exclusively through the "Free Item Drop" should be of greater demand in order to promote increased game play.

We strongly believe that this new system will help provide some added variety and new types of game play experiences for all players to enjoy. New strategies may be developed around ships that previously may have lacked in certain respects and with a little bit of luck, all players will have multiple chances to try something new thanks to the ongoing "Free Item Drop" and exclusive items only available through it.

We welcome your feedback and assistance through the test server so we can work on providing an enjoyable update.

-Randy

-----------

Update - 2nd April:

-  BB6 and CV6 will not be included in ship tuning system.

-  A ship with a ship tuning enhancement added will be identifiable in-game.

------------

Update 23rd April:

-  For number 10) above - all items will now be included in the free drop system, which will run permanently at the end of battles.  So there will be chances to receive any and all of the items for free.

So.... a BB4/EBB4 KM ship with almost same firepower and same speed as Lion 1 now is a unbalance?

What about armor whore L1? that is balance if other players forget AP (specially KM, has the worst DMG?
Why a KM player can´t armor his ship, as same as RN player?
that´s Balance for what?

I purpose: Stop crying and wait to see.

From what you've just said I take it that you have no understanding of game mechanics and why balance is important.

But yeah, SDE is counting on a few players like you.

You keep refering to mentioning this ship tuning project in past updates;

Here is the January update:

  • Quick Status Updates 1/6/13

    01. 06. 2013 20:11 PST

Hey guys,

Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday season.

Our team is continuing to work in accordance to the schedule provided early last month with the following projects driving focus:

Web developers continue working on Amazon marketplace integration immediately followed by the new fleet leader area project. There was a bit of a set back during the holiday season on the Amazon work as a result of breaks and a need for some technical solutions. Work should now continue unimpeded. Our hope is still to see these projects either completed or very near completion this month. We realize that many are looking forward to the fleet leader area and are keeping this in mind as we schedule the workload priorities.

Progress is being made on the previously hinted ship parts reinforcement system. Essentially a way of providing enhancements to specific components. This is currently scheduled for introduction to the test server later this month. Once that nears, we will make sure to provide more details on how the system will work in order to alleviate any concerns and provide screenshots as soon as available.

In addition to providing support to our web devs and finalizing work on the new EBBs and rental ship balance, the rest of our team continues to work on minor miscellaneous bug fixes and ideas for future events.

Once work on the two current primary projects has completed, we expect to see focus shift towards HA. With this in mind, we also require your assistance.

Gathering information regarding Harbor Assault bugs and issues can be very difficult for us since we do not have a method to test without actually having ourselves participate in HA. Due to this, having your feedback on the bugs encountered will be of great benefit to us. Please continue to report (through Bug Report support ticket) any and all bugs (past and present) that you experience with the current HA. We will do our best to gather and then tackle these bugs once our team shifts primary focus to HA.

This is all for the moment. As soon as new info is available it will be added.

Previous quick updates can be found here.

Thank you,

-Randy

It is mentioned but it sounds like you are refining enhancements for the game as it is normally played. there is no mention of it being a pay for enhancement or (pay to win) item. It sounded like these would go in across the board.

This was very misleading.

It appears quite clear that the sentiment of the player base is in opposition to this and really seems like a waste of time ,effort and money on SDE's part to continue this when there are existing issues that still need to be fixed.

Maybe what we really need is a Common Sense Boost.

@vick so you know how I said that when the reaction will not change even with the release of more information I will say I told you so?

I told you so.

limiting a change in a pecarious balance will do nothing but minimize total ruin to merely complete ruin.

you "liking' these items has no bearing on how they will affect the game

people are already on as equal terms as possible. in fact, if you truly wish equal terms eliminate the ability for premium or buying experts.

the best way to make the game enjoyable for all is to fix bug issues. if no one crashes that is alot better than everyone crashing but having premium items

the problem here, gen, is you are supposedly representing the majority/player base which are clearly in majority calling for these items to not be implemented, however, you "like" these and thus you ignore your duty. the ball being in our court should be an inaccurate metaphore as you should be on our side (the side of the majority)

while there are merits of trying to make weaker ships more competitive, this should only be attempted in balancing that particulal ship not introducing items aplicable to all ships.

moral of the story:

moderators are charged with representing the players, not forcing their own opinions.
(it seems you have been hanging around vick too much)

these items will ruin the narrow balance attempts that the test team and player base has worked towards.

And FF gets none?  The one ship with upgrades that might not ruin the game...

I feel for the test team.  Spending all that time to try to balance things just to have this appear and make everything a big joke.

Lol just did some math for QVic...

a Qvic with lvl 120 crew and a gimped scout (save weight) can pack 11" of deck right now
For each 0.1" of deck u need 243 tons displacement...with a 10% increase to max displacement = 12,000 extra tons...which you can pack another 4.9" of deck...maybe take away some more rookies somewhere save a touch more weight...I see...16" deck Qvic running around...and with an OH boost...no speed loss...and this is somehow NOT overpowered????

Actually KingCong I didnt say it would, I said it might for some, for others it was never going to, but at least you now have a more complete picture of it and an opportunity to test it and help recommend adjustments.
