  • Ship Tuning System + Update 2

    03. 28. 2013 19:35

TeamNF_MK2

Hello all,

As many are aware, a new "ship tuning" system that we have previously noted as in development has been patched to the test server. We welcome everyone interested in this new system to test it out for themselves before passing judgment as it should add a fresh new layer of game play aspect to the game.

This new system at its most basic form will consist of a number of new "time-limited" items which provide specific alterations to the respective ship they are applied to. The following details are also important to make note of:

1) Items of the same type will not stack.

2) Each item will offer 3 days of functionality. The items do not have to be set or used at any specific moment; the 3 day timer will begin once an item becomes "equipped".

3) Once an item is removed or replaced it will be discarded.

4) An (1) item will only provide a "tune" to the (1) ship selected to equip the item. The item's effect will not carry over to all ships.

5) At most, these items may increase a specific ship's performance by 5-10%. This should provide players a new unique ship experience, but it certainly will not damage in-game balance. Please be assured that we are taking all steps necessary in order to maintain proper balance. This is our highest priority.

6) These items are not being developed as essential items. They are intended to be utilized as a supportive item and to enhance game play by opening up new strategic opportunities.

7) The available item slots currently being considered (may be altered through testing if for example, results are not favorable for items applied for ships in blitz):

BB - 3 slots

CV - 4 slots

SS - 2 slots

CA - 3 slots

CL - 3 slots

DD - 3 slots

FF - none

8) Once introduced, there will be a daily ongoing (no end date) "Free Item Drop" for these ship tuning items. This will allow all players a chance to have fun trying some different items out every once in a while.

9) All players will be provided a free "speed-up" item at launch to get accustomed to their use and application.

10) There will be payable items as well as items exclusive to the "Free Item Drop".

Example of exclusive payable items (names tentative): R mount shell space increase, aircraft space increase, fighter attack power up

Example of items exclusive to "Free Item Drop" (names tentative): R mount reload time decrease, Accuracy increase, aircraft speed increase

Example of items both paid and free (names tentative): ship speed increase, air tank increase, aircraft fuel increase

As should be noted, items available exclusively through the "Free Item Drop" should be of greater demand in order to promote increased game play.

We strongly believe that this new system will help provide some added variety and new types of game play experiences for all players to enjoy. New strategies may be developed around ships that previously may have lacked in certain respects and with a little bit of luck, all players will have multiple chances to try something new thanks to the ongoing "Free Item Drop" and exclusive items only available through it.

We welcome your feedback and assistance through the test server so we can work on providing an enjoyable update.

-Randy

-----------

Update - 2nd April:

-  BB6 and CV6 will not be included in ship tuning system.

-  A ship with a ship tuning enhancement added will be identifiable in-game.

------------

Update 23rd April:

-  For number 10) above - all items will now be included in the free drop system, which will run permanently at the end of battles.  So there will be chances to receive any and all of the items for free.

" we strongly believe this new system will help..."

Isn't that the opening line for hackshield?

Seriously, it's like they are blind to the players grieves against even considering this cancer.

There will be a symbol of items that set on the ship? Or something so we know that the ship have item on board?

Sharn_ra - I dont know that one but will ask the question or get it looked at in the test server.  An interesting point though, thanks.

As if there was no more important topic for $DE to introduce new crap instead fixing known issues and bugs / features.

Who needs balance anyway, this will be awesome in addition to the sometimes more than stupid autobalance system, random crashes and desyncs.

Good thing that summer is coming soon (hopefully), way better ways than spending time (or even money, lol) for this game.

Given $DE's previous track record of implementing new stuff we can safely assume it will be put live as is.

So just a small issue, is the auto stacker going to account for tunings on a ship?

Because an L1 with just the R mount size increase, will be better than a L2 ( and most other BB5's) without any tunings.
L1 with 5% bigger R mount can fit the L2 guns with 3 binds of ammo. The L1 has more useable displacement than the L2 ( even after switching L1 guns with 4 binds for L2 guns with 3 binds)and has a higher base speed. A L1 equipped with 3 L2 guns might still do 26/44 while a fat crewed L2 can barely hang on to 23/39 and an AW L1 with L2 guns will do 23/39 AND carry more armor than an AW L2 that goes 21/35.
To avoid this imbalance you could always increase the gun slot size differences with 5% between each tier of ship, but that will not fix the various other imbalances the tunings will cause.
Anyway even to try and fix some of these issues will take a ton of work and time to test, time that $DE has proven it will never give to the test team.

Don't tell us you will allow the test team to balance anything, cause $DE won't. The test team might be allowed to do a very short bug hunt, but that will be all.

If the $DE has any sense they will withdraw this idea and come up with other items to make some extra cash.
Yourshepherd's ideas of items that remove the xp penalty on sailors that are on too high or too low ships have merit. Or an item that removes the xp support penalty applied to support and special forces sailors, so engineer/repairers and pilots receive the same xp as BO's/gunners.

There are better ways to introduce items without screwing up the competative end of the game and driving masses of ppl away.

I won't be the only that will be gone if these items do go live.
Try and have a server where there's 2 rooms open and 1 room playing on primetime ( AKA Kaiser server at the end) and see how long it survives.
Unless of course that's the plan all along...

Zyzzo

personally i dont like it, and most of my fleet have my same opinion, as usual no comunication by sde till the bomb explode (thanks only to a player on test server)

unless asking us on poll wich nation we play (7 years old game), a poll about that?

if you will implement this "tunning" at least make it only avaiable for the first 3 tier of bb/cv (it have a sense, at least)

randy your point number 5 is in complete conflict whit the rest

as said before, use your time to fix the game, instead make new "imba" content (im also scared on the number of bug it will give this)

if you need to make more money, u've an entire comunity that can give you tips/suggestion about that, u can make money even without adding such things

hackshield docet (and no lesson learned)

Let me get this straight.  You have on average, 2-4 people crashing EVERY GAME due to major deficiencies in this antiquated game engine.  Harbor Assaults, which are the only reason most long time players even start up this game being decided by pure luck on who crashes and/or desyncs on the harbor tile.

Yet this is how you decide to allocate your resources?  I have been saying for years that this game is run by people who go from one horrible decision to the next.  Very soon there will be several new games released that will finally give NF some direct competition.

These items will never be balanced.  Balance in this game is extremely tight, where even a 5% increase in performance will drastically alter balance.  These items cannot be added in any form.  There really can't be any debate on it, since these items will change balance too much just by existing.

The only reason this game is alive despite SDE's best efforts is its unchallenged niche in WWII naval combat and its dedicated fanbase.  You will be losing the first point, and now you are spitting in the face of that loyal community that has made you what you are today.  I have been playing this game off and on since early 2005, and I know that I will not be playing this game anymore if I have to compete with people using these new items.  Good luck to you SDE.  You will need it.

Hackshield went in and I went away for 3 years...this is worse. This is SDE blatantly trying to milk the cow for everything she's got before she dies.

I imagine it will be fun and exciting for players to never know what they're up against when they look across at an enemy ship.

Does this BB4 have BB5 range?  It is a mystery, we'll find out after the one shot.

I'm sorry Randy, but I have to call bullshit on that bolded statement. The one and only thing $DE is hoping to gain from this is lining their own pockets, NOTHING ELSE.

You say that people don't HAVE to buy these items. If people want to remain competative then they have no choice, they'll HAVE to have these to combat the other people who either get them from random drops, or buy them in bulk.

By making these items have a 3 day lifespan, $DE is trying to get repeat sales to continue lining their own pockets. Whats wrong, not getting enough from sailors, PBBs, sailor & ship items and premium subscriptions? No? Wonder why that is? Could it be BECAUSE NOONE WANTS TO SPEND MONEY ON A GAME THAT CRASHES EVERY FIVE MINUTES? Think that MIGHT have something to do with low sales?

This is a money grab Randy, don't try and tell us it's anything but that. Go ahead and put it on the server. I garauntee you'll have a LOT fewer players that you think you will.
