I'm simply having a discussion on a forum level as opposed to your president who's making accusations on a global scale so close to the 30th anniversary. The main reason she's doing this now as well is OIL which could lead a tax windfall of over 100 Billion.

To play the range game would be hilarious. It's about a few thousand people who have CHOSEN to be British. We aren't forcing them and their free to decide.

By your logic, The Faroe Islands belong to Britain and not Denmark. Greenland belongs to Canada. Taiwain belongs to China.

I'm one that constantly fights with Sindher, yet I agree on several points:

1) there is nothing wrong with this thread. He's asking opinions and given some of the current events, it is an interesting topic.

2) no one in here has said "kill them all" or anything bad to either side. We are all rational people here.

I would like to ask something about this "self-determination" thing, since when the opinion of three thousand people count for anything at all in this world?. Only matters because there are some serious military power behind them. That's all. Some countries have killed several times the population of the islands recently, while defending their own interests. Does anyone bother to ask to the thousands of civilians killed if they wanted to die because a son of a bitch chose their country to hid?

So, let's say for a moment that "OK, it's all about oil". Then, we are just following your policies, so take your self-determination argument and stick it in your ass (that's for Cameron). We, as a country, have our own agenda too, and that includes the recovery of the Malvinas and the assimilation of his people, if possible.

It's all about power, money, weapons, resources, etc. Things like reason, arguments, history, or the will of a small group of people, are just bullshit to feed forum discussions like these one (or speeches, when you have brainless politicians in charge). So yes, I like the range argument, in this world, is as good as any.

I'm gonna say the UN has the right idea. The "ownership" of these islands is in the hands of the people who make their lives there. The UK does not own them. They are not a province or territory of the UK. They are an 'associated territory' meaning they have available to them citizenship right if they choose, disaster relief, and protection from aggression coverage. That's it. From what I gather, they don't have the most idyllic lives, and if they choose to live there, more power to them. I don't think ANYONE has the right to remove people who have lived their entire lives there, for some sort of national pride. As it is, they have to deal with nonstop harassing phone calls, just random people threatening them with death for living where they were born and grew up, lol. The only little newspaper they have has to spend an hour each day deleting hate messages from nice Argentinian 'patriots' lol. Sorry, but if I was Argentinian, I would be for leaving them alone. From what I gather though, mainstream intellectual Argentinians already feel this way, and are embarrassed by their gov't's stance on this issue. It is apparently the right wingers and uneducated masses that have this view. It's like how most Americans are embarrassed by the saber rattling god fearin' murricans' that elect a right wing good ole boy every so often, while the rest of us shake our heads and wonder what they are thinking.

Why are you comparing dictatorships to a democracy like Britain? It's an Overseas Territory that self governs itself and has a prosperous economy. The only thing it relies on is Defence and handing of Foreign Affairs by the UK.

At no point in history has Argentina ever officially owned the Islands. What will improve the way of life in Argentina by having the islands?

It CLEARLY is all about Oil and the profits generated from it. We're talking a 100 Billion +.

Here is some sabre rattling for you.

I'm not sure the Argie Prez (can't be bothered to spell her name) can tell the difference between a Nuclear Powered SS and an SS carrying nuclear weapons.

What would happen if Britain gives sovereignty to the islanders?

@Lionel: The problem is, not all people here are rational.

All it takes is some dimwitted troll that would start a flame fest, then the national bashing would begin :(

Eitherway, I guess I'm just pessimistic. I'm actually interested though.
