  • Meeting Actions - *Update 2*

    12. 02. 2012 01:58

vick11

Actions from the Fleet Leader meeting on 1st December:

1.  Randy will request a specific update on the issue of HA:

-  Core HA update and crashing issues.

-  HA Battle Mode.

-  Timeline and place in priorities.

*In progress*

*Update 2 - Very grateful for the reporting of HA bugs, please keep those coming in.  The Devs are working to replicate those in testing to then continue working on solutions.  There have been some changes introduced over the last couple of patches so any news on how HA is working would be welcomed on tickets.*

2.  We will question SDE about the Achievement System that was on the original work plan for 2012.  Is it still on the list or has it been removed, if still an aspiration what is happening with it?

*Update 2 - Investigation showed that the introduction of a meaningful achievement system within the current game engine would be a major project and so it was put on hold for the time being whilst other work is done.  It may get reserected later.*

3.  We will explore the possibility of a Poll system that pops-up at the Login page (only once per account for each Poll) to encourage greater participation in Polls.

*Being considered*

4.  When the new Fleet Leader forum opens we will discuss topics for meaningful, constructive, Polls.

*Waiting for Fleet Leader forum area in new construct - second priority after Amazon project*

5.  The Fleet Leader forum area is being worked on, but we will get an estimate as to when it may appear.

*No2 priority to Amazon - latest estimate is start of Feb 13"

6.  The new Fleet Leader area will be permission based rather than automatically linked to account status.  As such we will be able to consider cases for specific access beyond pure Fleet Leaders or Fleet Accounts if there is tangible benefit, eg some of the Testers on a case-by-case basis.

*As above*

7.  Trainworld content is useful, but falling behind recent changes as it is not a SDE resource and very much reliant on a single person.  Need to explore whether the asset can be incorporated to NF.com and kept upto date or elements of it replicated on the core site.

*Unfortunately SDE cannot take over the updating or content of trainworld, which is privately owned/operated/updated and thereby reliant on that person*

8.  Update '/' commands in-game and in the guides.  Anyone with input to that please forward to Head Moderator who will request the update.

*Passed to Devs - thank you for inputs*

9.  Update and expand game guides.  We intend to set work going on this with the revised Fleet Leader forum area (that will be read to all, write for Fleet Leaders).

*Some background work started on this (thanks to Lj and Darkfrost) - considering a way to get wider involvement ahead of FL area as well*

10.  Explore whether the Test Server can be same loading as main game but then a branch option from the Login page to save having to use a separate client.  There was a similar option in the past, can it be done again?

*Question asked - Waiting on response*

*Update 2 - although this was possible a few years ago for a short time, unfortunately it is not technically possible with today's version*

11.  Forum Rules and Server Rules review, plus application of rules.  We will open these discussions in the revised Fleet Leader area.

*Waiting on FL area - could be an agenda item for Fleet Summit?*

12.  Randy will establish an issues update thread that he will endeavour to update weekly on any progress across a range of issues and questions so we can attempt to better track and communicate where we are on developments, timeframes and priorities.

13.  We will consult SDE about producing a 'public' version of the Moderator Manual so players can better understand how TeamNF is constructed, how it works and its accountability, and the processes for complaint.

*Draft sent to SDE for consideration*

*Update 2 - Draft approved.  Should appear as a pdf on the Download > Manual > Public Mod Manual  link in the near future*

===================

On a side note, Randy talked about advertisement of the game through Amazon to attract new players and linkages with them on item payment.  Hopefully there will be more news on this in the near future.

And you often do Lj.

I have been away and am back now.  I dont usually tell the forums of my comings and goings, and I have no intention of starting for your benefit Lj.  I coordinate with the GMs and I let TeamNF know and that is adequate thank you.

The minutes were posted and made available.  The actions were noted here and we are working on those.  The updates being the first stage.  The Fleet Leader area was delayed as covered by Randy, but we are hoping to get it done in January.

Instead of the sarcy comments which are inappropriate from a head mod (telling a player he is ingenious even for themselves, saying that they often go on). Not really appropriate customer service.

What you are saying is that you don't think it matters that the community aren't unaware of your 20 day break? It wouldn't be for my benefit, it would be for the communities. And clearly there was no-one that stepped up given that there were no responses in this thread.

Furthermore, you asked for an agenda for the meeting, and many of the questions were unanswered. Many people including myself in this thread have asked for the answers to the agenda. Please can you provide them to help fulfil your promise to communicate with the community.

The fleet leader area should not take 2 months to do. The delay is not good enough and is another in the long list of failures. How many promises have been broken already? So much for this fresh start.

Listen to the community. Not try and subjugate them. We want what was promised to us. Otherwise I can envisage another 300SD patch "event" again.

Randy has provided 3 (one was an edit to a thread) updates in the last month. Which is an improvement but quite honestly still not good enough.

Event updates have come from a few hard working TNF members in replies to threads, but there has been little/no communication throughout the event and too many errors and bugs.

I didnt have a 20-day break.  Just because I dont post does not mean I am not here.  Moreover, I even managed to do some things whilst away, just not everything.  And no I am not going to start telling you when I am here and when I am not.  The support system is adequate to cope and has done so on many a time when I have not been here, so no need to change that.

As for the agenda, we gave plenty of opportunity for people to ask questions during the meeting and when there were no more we closed it off.

So you just chose to ignore the thread in between the 8th December (your last forum post) and your break?

You are meant to be communicating with the community. Posting on the forums is part of that. This is what you promised on the 1st December in the fleet leader meeting.

Do you think the support system has coped in the last month? Do you think the support system has been adequate during the event? If you honestly think that, maybe you should read the forums and see what the community thinks, because they certainly do not agree, and the responses in this as well as other threads (or lack of) show this.

As for the agenda, many questions that were asked were met with an answer of "I don't know". How about living up to your promise of communication and answering them on the forums? I really don't get why you want to deny the community information regarding this?

You are meant to be a focal point of the community towards SDE. The community needs to know if you are taking a break or if you are going to be away. The community needs you to be active ingame and active on the forums.

Put the past behind you and live up to the promises you made to the fleet leaders on the 1st December.

The support system coped, the response from the Devs could have been better with regards to event problems and I have provided that feedback up the chain, but that is another story.

I am not going to start detailing my availability on these forums. Also, even when I am away I invariably answer emails and PMs regularly anyway and quite often can keep track of the forums as well.  As for my time in-game, that is more than adequate or SDE would be the first to question me on it.

I am frustrated the Fleet Leader area has not appeared yet, as I see that being a useful conduit for more information flow.  I will be pressing that again after the weekend.  I will also review agreed actions this weekend and see what else we can move forward on, alongside continuing work on a public version of the Mod Manual for SDE to consider releasing.

The support system didn't cope, in the fact that there was little info on the forums and lots of complaints on the forums regarding it. However, admitting the dev response was poor is a start. However, there was no enough active posting and stickies updating the community of the situation from TNF. The only people I saw doing it was Alexcaboose, Psychohove and I think Tbagg. I brought the poor response time and this up from the Dev's and you said I was being disengenius even for me. So I guess now you agree? And many of the responses were in threads and not highly advertised.

All I am asking was a quick message to the community when you are away for an extended period of time. When the dev's are on holiday, that is often mentioned. I'm not saying you shouldn't have a holiday, but there has been a large gap of Forum TNF presense this month.

Thank you. Would it be possible to get the Agenda questions answered, especially the ones that weren't able to be answered on the day. And i'm sure you agree, there needs to be more communication, and more forum activity from SDE and TNF.

Could there also be a post explaining and detailing the recent TNF organisational changes too?

The TeamNF changes will be covered in the public version of the Mod Manual once SDE approve it for release.

Unless I am going to absent for a protracted period of time and be totally out of communication (which is extremely rare) then I am not going to publish my availability.  If you need to contact me email and/or PM will normally generate a reasonably quick response irrespective of my availability to get in-game.

Any outstanding agenda questions from the last meeting can be posted on the Fleet Leader forum area and we will be do our best to answer them there.

Communications on these forums need to be a two-way street.  I personally put up with a lot of trolling, foul-mouthing on the old Fleet Leader forum and to be frank a lot of naieve, misguided and unwarranted comments/attacks that would not be tolerated on a lot of other game forums - a fact that has been pointed out to me by several people over the last few months.  I do put up with it to try and maintain some freedom of speech over what is debated and discussed, but I know the resulting atmosphere puts a lot of other team members off from engaging, as it does a lot of players.

There are two ways to move that forward, 1) We could come down hard on this and stamp it out, or 2)  some of the doom-sayers, trollers and to be blunt abusers, could try giving the team and other players, especially new ones, a bit of a break.  I would obviously prefer the second option.  I would prefer an atmosphere where people thought about the impact of their words and accusations before they pressed 'post'.  An atmosphere where even the newest player is welcomed and valued for joining in as opposed to being chastised for daring to post anything and made to feel unimportant.

This was a point discussed at the Fleet Leader meeting and not surprisingly it remains unresolved, because there was no agreement on moving one way or the other.  So once again it falls back to TeamNF to try and tread the middle ground and take the attacks.  However, I am starting to lean towards giving the supporters' comments a try and going very hard over for a while to make the point and change the atmosphere the hard way.

In terms of SDE contact, Randy has done exactly what he agreed to do with the updates and and I know he pays attention to the forums, replying when he needs to.  I also hope he may be able to engage a bit more on the new Fleet Leader area, as it will be more focused issues and probably less overall content to track.  However, it is unreasonable to really expect him to have the time to sit and reply to every single thread, engage in all debates or even try and Moderate the forums in some way.  To do so would damage his core output, which would in turn reduce the support available to players that need it, which is untenable in the extreme.
